Be gentle or it will break November 21, 2009 S. Brown (Olympia, WA USA) I special ordered the Swingline 545 stapler at my local office supply store on Sept. 1, 2008. It broke about a year later. Maybe I hit it too hard, but I was only stapling paper. The internal part of the stapler, which is metal, is attached to the top of the stapler, which is plastic, by a piece of plastic. The plastic broke and is impossible to fix. For a few months now, I've been manually lifting the mechanism every time I staple. However, I finally decided to buy a higher quality stapler to replace it. I liked the 545 because it was small, light, modern-looking and cheap, but what good is a stapler that breaks?
Not impressed. OK - I was disappointed September 14, 2008 B. FLEAGLE (Homeville PA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
All I can say is that I expected a lot more from Swingline. This stapler is marginal at best, in terms of both its construction, and performance. It continually jams, and this is just for light duty, such as stapling 3-4 pages. I expected more from Swingline. I've used ACCO / Swingline products in the past, with much better results. This stapler does not compare to the Swingline staplers made 15-20 years ago. Go with the metal versions, or try to pick up an older one at a flea market or a garage sale. You'll get better results than with this model. IMO.
Never Has Worked Well August 30, 2008 Silver Bear (Longmont, CO United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Low price, low quality. It barely staples through 10 pages and then doesn't even close the staple. Spend a little more!
Average, but inexpensive August 21, 2008 Nathan Beauchamp (Oak Park, IL USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is not Swingline's best effort. Made of plastic unlike their better models, it works most of the time. Unfortunately, mine jams somewhat frequently. Another thing that I am not crazy about is that when reloading the staple tray, sometimes it is very difficult to get the top open. When it does come open, it can cause the remaining staples to fly everywhere.
On the plus side, it seems durable, is inexpensive, and because of it's muted color, won't attract any stapler stealing freaks (or SSFs) in your office.
all right by me !!! November 21, 2007 Matthew G. Sherwin (last seen screaming at Amazon customer service) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Swingline has made excellent staplers for decades now. My father still uses them in his office and I have one or two at home always.
This budget priced stapler will amaze you at how well it works for a very low cost. Just gently pull open the top cover of the "drawer" where the staples will be stored until you use them and then insert the staples. As another reviewer notes, the stapler is manufactured is such a way as to make it difficult for two staples to come out at the same time. That way you get one clean through staple for your documents with no mess. It's all very clean cut.
Obviously, if you need to staple huge bundles of paper at a time, this stapler might not be up to such an extreme challenge. People usually have a pretty intuitive feel for how many pages of paper can be stapled by this. They say it can staple up to twenty sheets of paper; but if your paper is very "heavy" (or, thick) than it might be able to staple something more like 15 or 16 pages of paper.
Overall, this is a very well made stapler that will easily last you years. The staples that go with the staples are just as nicely priced as this stapler itself. I highly recommend this stapler by Swingline for your home office and general purpose needs.
