Check with Your Serviceman First! November 24, 2009 Florida Joe This was a mistake on my part. I should have asked my A/C serviceman before ordering. When it arrived I called him to install the unit. He tried for 2 hours but could not get it to work. So I returned it.
If you do order it, prepare to spent 20 minutes getting it out of its hard plastic case. Then have on hand an ample supply of batteries. I think it took 8 to run it.
Unfortunately, even with the many batteries, it would not work.
The GREAT news is that amazon.com credited my account without question.
The reason I gave this product just one star (*) was to alert readers to be certain to check with their serviceman before ordering it.
Worth Every Penny November 17, 2009 Roger C. Collinge (Cheshire, CT) It was easy to install and program. Once it's programmed you don't have to worry about forgetting to turn-up or turn-down the thermostat again.
Disappointed October 14, 2009 JMD (Renton, WA United States) The thermostat works, but:
1. Very slow to respond when I raise or lower the HOLD temperature.
2. Display is tiny - temperature and time are readable except when backlit, and the day of the week is too small and faint to read at all.
Very impressed! October 13, 2009 Michael P. Fettig (Seattle, WA) I was looking to replace a failing (screen was dying)15 year old thermostat. I was thinking how my wife was always turning the thermostat up or down (mostly making me run downstairs to change the thermostat). On a whim, I searched "wireless thermostat" on Amazon and pleasantly surprised there was such an item and was comparible to the price of box store thermostat.
It is easy to install and was done in 15 minutes. Works fine on my 15 year old three wire Rheem gas furnace. Makes my wife happy when she can turn up or down the heat from her bedside. Be sure to have 6 AA alkalines to power the unit(2 for thermostat, 2 for receiver, and two for the transmitter).
Was hoping the "fan only" function would work for the summer, but I guess that only works with a 5 wire furnace. Not the fault of this unit.
I recommend highly!
RC frequency remote vs IR frequency remote September 14, 2009 D. Hyatt (Phx, AZ) I went from a Ritetemp with an infrared remote(same as tv,dvd, etc remotes), pretty much a line of site remote. It worked kinda, if I got up and pointed it at the thermostat from a foot or two away, again almost a definite line of site remote, which totally defeated my purpose of not having to get up to change the thermostat. This Lux has a radio controlled remote. It ROCKS! It would probably work from out on my patio. Cons? If it had a 1/2 degree temp setting on the temp turn on/off, it couldn`t get much better than that. Another buyer on Amazon mentioned it eating batteries. Mine is too new to know, but that would be a fair trade off for the convienence of this remote, for me. I never ever use dollar store batteries. And rechargeable batteries are usually only about 1.3 volts I think, vs 1.5 volts from an alkaline battery. I highly recomend this unit. ps, I "think" you can use up to 3 remotes one thermostat?
