Furnace Filters November 11, 2009 W. Falcone (Elyria Ohio) I have used this brand of filters for years and am quite pleased with the way they work..
Filtrete Filters November 4, 2009 Christopher Wunsch (wausau, WI United States) My son has Asthma, and my mother has COPD, we have a cat, and the filtrete filters help make it possible for us to get together at our home, without triggering respiratory problems for anyone. They are a bit more expensive, but they also last 3 times as long without needing to be changed. 3M Has an awesome series of furnace filters, in the Filtrete Line

I have used Filtrete before and was pleased with them. My local stores no longer carry the size I needed (12x20x1). These filters really trap the dust and I change them faithfully every 3 months, or sooner, depending on how long I run my air conditioner.
Bad deal on a decent filter August 10, 2009 L. Mccarthy (Los Angeles) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
These filters strike a good balance between cost and performance. I've been using them for years. They protect your respiratory tract and your HVAC equipment. People with extreme sensitivity should consider something like the Filtrete "Ultra Allergen" line, but the rest of us will be fine with this model. Always, always always, change them at least every three months. Check it monthly the first few changes; it's pretty easy to tell if you need to change it more frequently.
However, these exact filters (same manufacturer's part number) are available at my local big-box home improvement store for 33% less than this price. And that their one-off price vs. Amazon's 4-pack price. I'm surprised and disappointed, since Amazon's usually able to beat out the clunky supply chains of the brick-and-mortar-o-saurs.
These are great- just be careful that too much filtration can OVERHEAT your heat and air units May 22, 2009 Michael L. Hanley 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
These are great- just be careful that too much filtration can OVERHEAT your heat and air units
I was using the Filtrete dark blue 1500 rated filters and thought they were great. But eventually I found the air flow was less and less and then it almost stopped altogether. I had to call my Heat/ AC guys and they told me that if I used the higher rated filter (1500 or so, different for each system), the one that 'stopped' more allergens/ dust/ etc, that these high rated ones fill up quickly with all the gunk the catch, and that they can slow down the air flow so much that it may cause your heat/ AC machinery to overheat and damage itself.
He switched me to the red Filtretes- they are rated 1000 and not 1500. If you truly need higher levels of filtration, make sure your heat/ ac system can handle it, and maybe you have to change the filters more often (the really highly rated filters grab EVERYTHING so all the dust etc builds up much more quickly and could block the air flow entirely in less time than say the red 1000 ones. So stay as low as you can on the ratings, but if you have to block extra things like dust or mites or allergens, ask your heat/ AC guy to tell you which filter to use, knowing it will capture this much dust/mites/ allergens, and how often you have to change it. Hope that helped, and good luck
ps I myself am going to ask them if i can use the higher rated filters- say the 1500s- if i switch them out much more often. we'll see.
