 Nice looking, but programming a little confusing September 4, 2010

Very good looking thermostat, very nice display,large font and backlit. The problem is with the programming. Very cumbersome ordeal, not seemless or repetitive as with other thermostats. Only reson I bought it is because my wife likes the display more than the Honeywell. Thank God I only had to program it once for heating and air-conditioning, I'd hate to have to do it again.

I'm giving this product five starts for the price. If it cost as much as most of its competitors with similar features, I'd probably give it four at most.
The thing that sold me on this thermostat, besides the much lower price tag, is the fact that it allows you to set your desired temperature sensitivity. Some other thermostats (e.g. Honeywell) have it pre-set to 0.5 degrees (I believe), and don't allow you to change it. That means you may save electricity, but you're killing your AC unit by constantly starting and stopping it. The default on this unit is 2 degrees, and I left it at that, but it is possible to change it.
I also like the the little knobs at the bottom of the thermostat (hidden by a slightly too-loose cover). They allow for old-fashioned fan/AC/heat setting. But the touch screen is nice too, and setting the temperature on it is what actually turns on the heater/AC, obviously.
The backlight is nice. I read you can make it stay on permanently, but I'm not sure if it's using the juice from the batteries if you do.
Speaking of batteries, they are not included for some reason... You'll need 2 AA's.
The installation was a total breeze. I didn't need instructions, and swapped out my 30 yr old analog for this baby in about 15 mins, including drilling and leveling.
I've noticed sometimes it thinks for a while before switching the AC on once I set the temperature. 2 minutes max. But more times than not it turns right on.
Needless to say I'm a happy customer. For half the price and more features than a comparable Honeywell, this is a great buy in my opinion.

What can I say.
It was between this and the Honeywell TH8320U1003 ($30 difference).
The Lux menu is NOT intuitive. If you choose this unit, please read the manual well (It's only 6 pages).

It's very repetitive. Press Menu, Scroll, Select Set Review Programs, Choose Monday, Program Monday, Press Yes to accept and proceed and press up or down arrows to change temperature. Remember these things: Menu, Next, Scroll, Exit. Menu gets into the settings. Next switches between menu settings, Scroll allows you to browse through a specific setting, and Exit does what it implies.
You have to set MORNING, DAY, EVENING, NITE. There is no way to select 5 days and set them for the same thing. I would prefer to have the option available.
With a little practice, I could have gotten used to this thermostat, BUT the other members of the household would hate it.
This was the highest rated thermostat from Consumer Reports. I'm not sure why (I'll guess price). It works, I'll give you that, but it's so ANNOYING to program, I'm not sure how they managed not to start drinking halfway through. Seriously, I read the glowing reviews and was swayed, even with the few people who were dissenters. I should have listened and not wasted time. This unit might work as a thermostat, but the interface is TERRIBLE. If you are ok with that, peace be with you.
I returned this unit to amazon. Good riddance.
I instead ordered the Honeywell unit. I tried their virtual thermostat and was hooked.

I have to say this is the easiest thermostat I've ever owned and the display is big enough for my elderly parents to read with ease. I originally ordered one and later bought two more for gifts after I had some time to live with it. It's a little more expensive than some of the other options, but I am highly satisfied.

I've had this thermostat for nearly two years and have found it to be easy to program and use. I like that I can have it turn on and off in the morning and in the evening, so I save on energy costs during the day.
