Product Description "SPRINGFIELD PRECISION"
ENERGY SAVING PROGRAMMABLE VENT
Energy saving programmable vent that shuts off heating or cooling in
unoccupied rooms like: children's rooms while at school, home office at
night, finished basement during the day, family room when asleep. This
is not a thermostat. This vent runs independent of your heating and
cooling system. It cuts down on space being heated or cooled and saves
up to 33% on heating and cooling costs.

| Customer Reviews: Great Product - love it and know that it is working August 19, 2009 James M. Johnson (Ohio) I bought several of these and replaced all vents in bedrooms and bathrooms. We close the doors when we leave for the day and when we come back the rooms are noticeably warmer. About an hour before bedtime the vents open and the rooms start to cool down. At that same time the vents in the family room and kitchen close, sending all that cold air to the bedrooms. These really do help send the conditioned air (heated or cooled) to the right room. I used the regular batteries that came with them and have not had the noise problems that another user had.
These devices work great if implemented properly. Don't close off vents that lead to your thermostat as that will actually increase the workload of your heating/cooling system. These should be used for remote rooms that are used/not used on a semi predictable schedule.
Mediocre at best July 15, 2009 Steve T (Washington) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I purchased two of these vents to replace ceiling vents that simply broke. I wanted something that was easy to open/close manually with a small stick or pole. This vent is a great idea, but a very poor implementation. Overall the unit looks and feels pretty solid. It mounted in the ceiling with only a small gap around the lip (I could of remedied that by using a pair of pliers to bend back part of the ducting) because this vent is much deeper than the one it replaced. I put in brand new NiMH batteries and programmed the unit. Programming is easy enough and the manual open/close operation is smooth and nearly silent. The vent does whistle a bit when closed, but it wasn't too bad (we have it in an office, you probably don't want it in a bedroom). Within 20 minutes the unit started SHRIEKING loudly every 40 seconds. I read the manual and discovered that the unit was warning about a low battery. I tried a second set of BRAND NEW NiMH batteries...same problem. Not only that, when you remove the batteries, it loses the time and programming...even if you don't use the program, you need to clear it out after changing the batteries because it will put its own random program in.
I might still keep it just to use as a manual battery operated open/close, but am considering sending back. Very disappointing because there is only one other brand with similar features.
