Very unhappy with Zalman Customer Service November 17, 2009 Garden_lover My silver ZM-NC2000 looks very nice and functional but I am VERY disappointed that it didn't come with the usb cable that is needed to power the fans. I contacted Zalman the manufacturer SO MANY times. Unfortunately they are not in the US (maybe) so I could not call them but instead emailed both their Tech Support AND Sales email addresses. Nobody replied at all! All I want is the USB power cable! Because of this mistake, I am not happy with paying more than $60 for a cooling pad. :-(
Great product for 17" laptop October 24, 2009 Terry McElligott (Illinois) I've had the ZM-NC2000 for almost 2 years and it works great without any problems. I have a 17" laptop which gets fairly hot to the touch without cooling. This cooler fits my laptop perfectly and keeps it significantly cooler. So much so that I can have the cooler/laptop combination on my lap for hours without problem. Also very good looking and whisper quiet.
A word of warning if purchasing a laptop cooler: be sure whatever cooler you buy is compatible with the airflow on your laptop. This unit blows air upwards on to the bottom surface of the laptop, which works great for my laptop because it draws air in from the bottom and exhausts out the side. The first cooler I bought (don't remember the manufacturer or model) worked in reverse, so that it was drawing air away from the bottom surface of the laptop, in effect fighting the laptop fans for air. It kept the laptop case cooler, but after a month of two, the motherboard fried out and needed to be replaced. Not absolutely sure the cooler caused the failure, but I suspect it contributed. Fortunately, the laptop was still under warranty and the motherboard was replaced for free.
A Quality Fan-Driven Notebook Cooler-And It Really Is Quiet September 11, 2009 H. L. Barnett (Monticello, Florida, USA) I received the Zalman ZM-NC2000 fan-driven aluminum top notebook cooler about a week ago and am using it with a
13-inch Dell laptop. I can't comment on its durability yet. What I can say is:
Pros: Our 13-inch laptop sits on the cooler without slipping or sliding, the cooler top is heavy-guage aluminum, the two fans have an adjustable speed control dial, the fans run quietly even at high speed, at low speed the two fans circulate plenty of air, you don't need to plug the unit into a wall outlet for power - it receives its power from the laptop via an included USB cable, it has an on-off button so you don't have to unplug the cooler from the notebook to turn it off
Cons: The included USB cable is only 6 inches long which may require you to purchase a USB extension to actually connect the laptop to the cooler (for me an extra $15.00 expense). At $62.00 a high-priced device compared to many other notebook coolers on the market but in this case I think you are getting what you pay for-a high quality product
It seems well designed, but it doesn't work well for me. September 10, 2009 Daniel Tai (San Jose, CA United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have an Apple Macbook Pro 17", purchased in July 2009. This laptop runs cool and fine if you just do web browsing, listening to iTunes, but it gets really hot if you start to play games. I played mostly flash games online on Facebook and World of Warcraft, and I noticed it gets really hot by the magsafe plug, then the heat goes to the left hand side keyboard, which I use mostly to move my character in World of Warcraft. I checked online for solutions, downloaded temperature/fan control app to know what temperature it is at (above 85-90), turned the fan up to max, and it didn't help much. Looking at the schematics, there is 1 fan on the left side, and 1 fan on the right side. The cpu and 2 gpus is on the left hand side of the laptop, and the right hand side is very cool. Anyone who knows computer would know you need to cool your cpu and gpus, as these components tend to produce more heat. Why there is not more than 1 fan on the left side is beyond me. So, I decided to looked into this product.
I got to say this product does look well designed. There are 2 fans (though the plastic on the bottom shows prints for 4 total). I believe one fan is blowing air, and the other one is sucking air. Each fan runs at 1500rpm max and you can adjust the speed. There are illustrations where the air will flow thru the holes on the top where its made of aluminum which will cool the bottom of your laptop. My 17" laptop fits very nicely, but not very comfortable on your lap, though I can see its not made to be put on your lap. That being said, this product is like a nice looking car that barely runs. When I put the fan on max, and put my hand on top of it, I barely feel air. It is very quiet, and you can see the fan moving pretty fast, but how could there be barely any air coming out? Is it because the second fan is sucking it right back out? I don't know. I can't say this product is useless, the very mild air does slow down the heating to temperature 85, but it still reach there and gets hot. I tried my brother's fan cooling pad that he got at Best Buy for 10 dollars, it has a single middle size fan, pretty loud, and it does about the same thing as this product. There are 3 USB ports, one is used to connect to your laptop for power, so you are left with 2, but its better than most cooling pads which doesn't offer any.
I really can't recommend this product to anyone.

This cooler reduced the heat of my notebook quite well. CPU/GPU temperatures went down ~10C. I was hoping it would lower the HDD temp a bit, because I have a high temp HDD, but it only reduced about 5C. Note: These can vary to each individuals/computer.
I wish it had bigger fans with more power. Sound is noticeable in highest setting.
