When the hardwood stairs were in place, he tried several times to negotiate the descent, and slid down and down and BOOM onto the hardwood floors in the hall. Rugs didn't help. I didn't want to carpet the stairs, and I didn't want our faithful pet to be injured. I found these at Brookstone, and got one pkg of 4 in brown. Since they look OK, (remove if having dinner guests), my large dog can now descend the stairs. Of course I had to order 3 more sets from Amazon, but he's worth it. They are saving the wear and tear on the hardwood stairs, especially since he would "paw" at the top step hoping to get some grip. Now he freely climbs up and down, and the treads stay in place. No more whining, "Help me, yelp! Yelp!" I felt his fear, as I recall seeing the top of the advanced ski slope at Vail and thought, OMG, now what do I do?
