Product Description It's 2 toys in 1! As a sturdy, stable walker, the Step Start Walk 'n Ride toy helps babies learn to stand, take their first steps, and walk. As the grow older, it easily converts to a first ride-on toy! It has a locking mechanism that only parents can activate, so children can't change modes by themselves. Kids can explore the hands-on activities in both the walker and ride-on modes to see fascinating sights, hear silly sounds and touch interesting textures. Adult assembly required
Editorial Review When little wobblers are bored with walls and sofa edges, and there's no one to offer a hand, they can two-foot it safely across that open ocean of living-room floor with the help of the Step Start walker. This dual-purpose toy acts as stable support as they learn to walk, then lets them roll along when they want to ride. Once they are secure on their legs, the walker converts easily to a first ride-on toy. (Only adults can operate the wheel-lock mechanism.) A flexible antenna, spinning drum, clicking gear, and other sight-touch-sound features provide sit-down play fun. Assembly requires a Phillips screwdriver. --Ava Natov
Amazon.com Review The Playskool Step Start Walk 'n Ride is a great stabilizer for your baby's first big moments of standing, stepping, and learning to walk. And once your infant/toddler has learned to walk, this versatile walking toy converts itself into a ride-on toy, helping your child learn to ride. Designed for children ages nine months to three-years old, the Step Start Walk 'n Ride also includes several hands-on activities with neat textures, sounds, and bright colors for plenty of sensorial fun. Push It, Ride It, Turn It, Spin It The Step Start Walk 'n Ride is designed to help your child with many activities, including standing, walking, and riding. The Walk 'n Ride also gives your child plenty of sit-down play, with sight-touch-sound features such as the gear shifter, lifting hood, spinning drum, and clicking dial. The walker/rider is also outfitted with bright, fun colors and friendly, smiling characters that are sure to please your infant or toddler while using. For parents, one of the best functions on this toy is its locking mechanism that changes the toy's mode from a walker to a ride-on toy. The lock cannot be undone by the child, and there is a distinct click that sounds when the lock is set in place. While your child is using the walker/rider, be sure to keep them away from sloped driveways and hills. Though the wheels are made out of very thick plastic, they are designed for the slower movements of a young child on a level, steady surface. A Great Walker and Rider for Beginners This walker/rider is excellent for its versatility of options for your waddler's different stages of development. And while your child is learning important stability skills, he or she can also play with and look at the fun sensorial gadgets that are attached from top to bottom in bright, fluorescent colors. The fact that the Step Start Walk 'n Ride is two toys in one makes it an economical choice and prolongs the amount of time your child will still be excited to use it and benefit from its activities. What's in the Box Body, four wheels, front handle, rear handle, handle retainer, domed lid, dial, roller, spinner (two pieces), antenna, gear shift, four plain #6 screws, and one #6 screw with attached washer.

Wobbly and not baby friendly March 13, 2010 Kayta R. Norris (Fairfield, CA) My daughter is 9 months old and is just learning how to walk. She received this as a gift for Christmas last year and was unable to use it at first despite being able to pull herself up to standing. The wheels on this are simply far too slippery. As soon as my daughter would begin to pull herself up on this it would roll away and bring her back to her knees. The gear shift, front compartment and rear rattle barrel were captivating to her though. After really getting the walking motion down on her Fisher-Price Brilliant Basics Stroll-Along Walker I let her have another go at this. Pulling herself up is easier now but it'll still roll away from her from time to time. The wheels definitly need improvement for this to be an effective walker.
Another concern I have with this is that when my daughter does manage to get herself standing and walking on it, the handle that she's holding onto seems to be really unstable. It will wobble from side to side as she walks and that's not so helpful when she as a 9 month old is already a bit wobbly on her feet. The handle could stand to be made from some firmer plastics that wouldn't allow so much movement.
The space for my daughter's feet (which is small, but not as small as other reviewers have made it out to be) could stand to be bigger. My daughter is on the taller side of the 9 month old height scale but the depth of this part doesn't seem to affect her stride.
Overall, if you have a little girl who's ready to start walking I reccomend purchasing the Fisher-Price Brilliant Basics Stroll-Along Walker. It's very stable, doesn't move an inch when my daughter pulls herself up on it and has plenty of room for those babies that may have larger strides.
Too easy to pull over February 16, 2010 NC 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This toy is ok for one to ride on, but didn't really work too well for walking with. The problem is it fell over when my son put too much weight while trying to walk, he tried to pull up using it a few times and it fell on him. As a result it was never really used for walking which was what I bought it for.
Gets them walking February 10, 2010 Piper Barker (Trumbull, CT USA) Provided just enough support to aid my child in taking her first steps. A little slick on hardwood floors for a child who still doesn't have enough control on their feet, but in little time they learn to get their feet moving to keep up with the walker. Takes a little getting used too, that's all, but I would certainly recommend it.
Great to Grow February 5, 2010 Laura L. Delman My godson loved this toy. He is just about to walk and took to it with enthusiasm. His older brother showed him what was possible and he was smiling. I look forward to see him maturing with the uses of the toy. Good job!
Walk and Ride January 17, 2010 Richard Harris This toy was for a friend's son. It was great to see the look on his face when the boy sat on and rode it around the room.
GREAT!
