pretty good October 20, 2009 H. West (Norfolk, VA United States) I ordered this to use with a heat gun on the baseboards of my 100yr old house. This scraper really gets into small spaces and has the ability to feather paint where there are chips in the paint. The blade is strong and sharp. Another time, I would order the optional rounded blades for use on curved surfaces.
There are 2 problems with this scraper
1) Blades are small, so that you can work on small areas -this also means slowish progress
2) Not ergonomic, as it claims (which was the main selling point for me)
Can't beat it for touch ups and small places October 1, 2009 Chuck Scott (Stillwater MN USA) I kept this on my belt while removing paint from my trim. It was great for getting after all of the little spots I missed while scraping with a larger scraper. Glad I had it as I constantly found little spots while painting that I wanted to hit while applying primer to the trim.
SHARP and durable September 23, 2009 Adrian Mendez (Middletown,NJ) I purchased this item to prep my exterior shingle for paint, but wound up testing it in a room I am remodeling.
Although the packaging was a little shoddy, the extremely rigid handle would have endured any mis-treatment during shipment, as well as being dropped from 30' from a ladder. The grip is ergonomic, however may not be suited for heavy, large area scraping (try the other model w/ the knob). The carbide blade that came with the item is sharp, and its triangular shape allows you to either get deep into a cavity, or create a -V- for filling. The included case is also well constructed and receives the unit snugly and secures it well. The only draw-back is that the clip in which you attach the holder to your belt should, in my opinion, be a loop; I have actually pulled the scraper and holster both off my belt due to the snug fit.
I initially used the scraper to prepare a drywall room for paint and trim, scraping paint globs, roller lines and misc. bumps from the wall. It worked like a razor would. Clean and precise, which amazed me. If the roller mark width was less than the blade width, it would remove only the raised paint, leaving the rest only scuffed. Using it for half hour justified the purchase price by saving me the cost of numerous DA sander discs that would have gummed up in no time.
Finally, I tried it on the cedar shingles with multiple layers of bad paint. PERFECT. So sharp and stable, I didn't get the typical chatter you would expect form cheap blades. Now I have to get the larger one for broader area removal. I know I won't be disappointed!
Awesome tool! November 20, 2008 Glenn S. Maddox (Ecuador) This is an amazing tool. It works better than anything like it. The problem is replacement blades, where to get them and how much they cost. Amazon does not sell them (yet) and they can cost up to $9.00 each. The blade should last until I can find them for less.
A must tool for wood, fiberglass and any other molding work.
best on the market. June 30, 2008 Dennis E. Cleveland 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Absolutely the best scraper out there. Easy to use and the absolutely flat blade makes scraping old finish off of delicate furniture easy and almost worry free from gouges. I worried when they changed the design of the handle since my last purchase, but the changes made it even better. And anyone worried about the cost of the product or replacement blades, don't. I refinish furniture for a living and my blades last just about a year, using both sides of course, and i still have a handle I have been using for the last eight years.
