Update your kitchen with this handsome nine-piece cookware set from Calphalon. The charcoal-gray matte finish of the Commercial Hard-Anodized series not only looks sophisticated but is impressive in performance: it sears meats over medium heat, cooks evenly, and stays stick-resistant without having a nonstick finish that can eventually peel. Moreover, hard-anodized pots and pans are safe to use with metal utensils and under the broiler. Riveted on for strength, the stainless-steel Cool V handles stay cool during stovetop cooking and are oven-safe, as are the lids. Covering all the basics, this set consists of a 2-1/2-quart covered shallow saucepan; 8-, 10-, and 12-inch open skillets; and 3- and 7-quart covered chef's casseroles. The lid on the larger casserole is domed to send moisture and flavors back into the pot for succulent meat dishes. Set includes: 8" omelette, 10" omelette, and 12" omelette, 3qt chefs casserole with cover, 7qt chefs casserole with cover, and 2.5qt shallow saucepan with cover. Heavy-gauge aluminum is responsive to temperature changes. These pans feature the original Calphalon hard anodized surface, which is stick resistant, meaning that it sticks when you want it (when your searing, browning) and releases when you need it to(when your food is ready). If you know how cast iron cooks, you know how the hard anodized cooks, but hard anodized has many beneifts that make it better choice- aluminum is a better conductor than iron, you never season your pan(so you dont have flavor transfer from dish to dish), and it doesn't rust! All pans are spun or drawn into shape, which makes the entire pan (sides as well as bottom) the same thickness, which guarantees even heating throughout. I wouldn't give anything a 5. One good reason is that you are not supposed to cook anything that hasn't been at room temp for ten minutes to thaw out. Otherwise, the set seems durable and the food cooks evenly. It was worth the price paid.

I purchased this set (after seeing it at a ridiculously low price and having gift cards to use) to duplicate some of the Calphalon pieces I already own, and I own a LOT of Calphalon. So, now I can give my daughter the last few pieces of my old stainless cookware. To those people who complain about this cookware sticking, this is NOT NON-STICK cookware (read the product descriptions). Actually, unless I'm cooking something like eggs or pancakes, I prefer to use the hard-annodized cookware because results are HIGHLY superior when browning meats, making gravy, etc. when compared to using a non-stick Calphalon (or other brand) product. I even make banana pudding in my hard-annodized pots and since I stir the custard constantly anyway, sticking has never been a problem for me. Anyway, I adore this cookware - it heats quickly, cooks evenly, cooks over much lower heat and cleans up easily (just soak a bit, wash with a Scotch green pad and towel dry). I love it so much that if I had to give up ALL of my material possessions, except one, I would choose my Calphalon hard-annodized cookware to keep. If you are considering purchasing, and are comfortable cooking with cookware that is NOT teflon coated, then I believe you will love this cookware. You definitely get a lot of quality and, if properly cared for, it will last longer than a lifetime, so be sure you have someone to pass it down to.

I was gifted a set of Circulon and was disappointed in its performance from Day 1 but I cooked with them anyway. On a whim, I purchased the Calphalon Commercial Hard-Anodized Everyday Pan (available here on Friday Sales) and fell in love with it. Then I picked up a saucepan, also love, love, love. After 2 years of use, both pieces looked close to new. When the teflon coating on one of the Circulon pans started peeling, I knew it was time for them to go ... I ordered these and trashed the Circulon. So glad that I did.
A real plus is that the pans in this line are oven-safe, which means savings in the way of purchasing casseroles and roasters. The only cookware I like better than this for cooking/cleaning/versatility is Mario Batali Italian Essentials Pots, which are fantastic but oh, so much more expensive.
My only complaint/disappointment with this line is that I frequently "cook" bagged meals from frozen (you know, heat up oil and dump in a frozen pasta mix, and voila!). Frozen foods like that stick to these pans. I don't have the same problem with a Wok by a different maker. Otherwise, foods clean off easily and the pans keep looking/cooking good. It also does a fantastic job caramelizing onions ... yum!
BTW, I throw them into the dishwasher -- life is too short to hand-wash pans! No problems, and I could care less that it voids the warranty.
On pricing ... I ordered this set when the price fell insanely low ... and then had to wait about 1 month for it to get back in-stock & shipped. Be patient -- you can save more than 1/3 over the regular price offered here (which is about 1/2 of list).

I agree with the reviewers who complain about the sticking. If you are want non-stick, pass these by. I continue to favor my cast iron and a teflon coated Claphalon pan over these. The sizes of the sauce pans in this set seem odd and that also keeps me using them only occasionally. Yes, I have to soak before cleaning for almost anything that I cook in these pans which is not a big deal unless you consider that the tastiest bits of the dish aren't making it to your plate. Lastly, the "Made in China" is certainly a turn-off. Calphalon includes care and use instructions in the package that do not list this product line, leading me to believe that even Calphalon is not proud of these pans.
