For years I have been staining using a regular brush or even a roller with an extension. The results were fine, but the job was very time consuming.
One of my co-workers had purchased the Black and Decker Stain Stick and told me how much quicker and easier he got his jobs done. I borrowed it and he was right! It is a genuine tool that has easy to follow instructions and delivers as it promises. The tube holds a good amount of stain, the pad glides easily over wood surfaces, and there is no excess stain flowing through as you work. Great price to on Amazon.com

Bought this to stain two small decks. It was on special and I thought it would make the job easier. Wish they would have put the instructions on the outside of the package. It comes with a 2-year warranty, but you almost damage the pad & stick it trying to remove them from the packaging along with the instructions. Is simple enough to use for application. Would be worth the price if the work area was larger than 300 square feet.
Was appalled at the steps to clean it. If you're willing to take the time to clean it, all the power to you! That would take longer than my whole staining job and would be messier, too! Since I bought mine on the cheap and wouldn't need it for another 5 years, I tossed it. I'm going back to good old brushes (long handled, if necessary). They're cheaper and easier to clean.

The paint stick makes painting quicker by saving you the time it normally takes to evenly load a paint roller with paint. Cons: It takes a bit of time to clean the stick; the stick gets a little heavy when loaded with paint (can be solved by filling only half of the stick with paint when starting); and it wasn't long enough for me to paint the ceiling (maybe taller people will have better luck). Still, I thought it was rather useful.
