Easy to use for small projects March 3, 2010 mangomann (San Rafael, CA) I found this spray gun really easy to use. I like that it sets up and cleans up so easily. It took about five minutes of practice and tinkering before I found the right setting for what I wanted to do. I did find that I needed to up the pressure from my compressor to 40-45psi from the recommended 30-35psi. The premixed texture worked fine but make sure to keep it moving into the gun. I had to keep shaking it down, especially when tilting the gun up towards the top of the wall. I didn't like the cheap plasticy construction of the gun but it worked well. Funny thing is it's hard to find a store that sells both the gun and the texture bottles. It took me a while to find both. Overall, well worth the $32 I paid for it at Home Depot.
Poorly made February 24, 2010 Frustrated Good for one-time use only. Piece of junk fell apart after 15 minutes of use. Not to mention anything thicker than water clogs the gun. Poorly designed!
Works Good August 13, 2009 B. Rice (Bothell, Wa) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Works fine. It may seem a bit cheap (plastic) but for home use its just fine. I would not buy one for profesional use, but for home use, this one is fine. I did my bathroom and the job came out fine. I plan on scraping off my popcorn ceilings through out the rest of my house and I will need to texture the ceilings after I am done and Im sure this spray gun will do the job great.
does not exude quality, but fills a niche June 11, 2008 Chad R. Webb (Benson, AZ USA) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I purchased this a couple years ago to texture the ceilings in my house after scraping the popcorn off. I will say, the product does work just fine, but not sure how it would stand up to consistent use. I will also say, if you purchase the pre-mixed containers, this will be about the most expensive way to texture you will be able to find (short of hiring someone to do the texturing for you).
The pre-mixed containers do not cover very much area, and are wickedly expensive. I'd recommend getting the 3L container and mixing your own. Purchase a container or box of topping compound and thin to the consistency somewhere between pancake batter and sour cream is the recommendation I was given and seems to work well.
Later, I purchased a real hopper gun and like it much better when doing larger areas, because the hopper lasts so much longer. After getting the hopper gun, I nearly chucked this gun because of it's cheap plastic feel until I realized that it fills the gap nicely between areas that are too large to use the aerosol cans of texture (very small patches), but too small to pull out a big hopper gun (much larger mess to clean up). A good area to use this gun on is a walk-in closet or similar sized area where it's smaller size (relative to a hopper gun) is an advantage.
Good product for the DIY'er April 17, 2008 C. Stephens 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
A great little gun with a great little price. I was going to buy the Wagner PowerTex, but I found this little gem. I was a little skeptical of a gun that only cost about 50 bucks, but as it turns out, it worked great. I didnt buy the homax powder, but mixed my own texture. I used the USG Spray Texture QT Medium Poly (cottage cheese finish). I mixed it with 4.5 gallons of water with a mud mixing wand.
I had to practice a little on an old scrap piece of drywall a few times. I tested the psi on my compressor, nozzle adjustments, and spacing from the drywall to the gun tip. I would practice and then scrape it off with a 12 inch knife, then try again. I ended up using the 3C setting with about 40 psi and it worked fine. The spray was a little messy at first, but after turning up the psi to 40 it sprayed "cleaner". Cleanup was easy and I got about 3 rooms done in a few hours. Word to the wise, don't fill the hopper up all the way because when you tilt it to shoot the ceiling it will spill on your head. A good little sprayer considering it was going to cost me $45 to rent a sprayer at the local rental store and I got it for a few dollars more. I used mine on my finished basement and it worked out great. I recommend it to any DIY'er!
