Crystal clear pour-on finish June 1, 2009 cycleman (PA USA) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This amazing 2-part polymer coating provides a crystal clear finish to countertops, tables, and nearly any other flat surface. As with any other product which you are using to make permanent changes to the item your working with, read the manufacturer's directions carefully, and when you're sure you understand them, re-read them again. After mixing, you have a about a half-hour of product "work" time, so be sure you have more-than-enough Envirotex Lite mixed, and all the tools you might need at your immediate disposal. A gas torch does an amazing job of removing bubbles and giving it that extra clear, level appearance, but, obviously, you should only use one if you are 100% certain you can operate it safely. I also recommend buying a small quantity kit, and practicing on a non-critical item before doing your master project. The completed project is not heat-resistant, not scratch-proof, and heavy objects will leave a "dent" that magically disappears, over time, after the object is removed. I'd rate it 5 stars if it were more scratch resistant. Otherwise: Great stuff! Amazing finish.
Misleading Product Information December 7, 2008 E. Walker (Long Island, NY, USA) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This product was displayed as part of a project for making your own tray at a local craft store. My intention was to make a nice wood tray to use for serving tea to guests. I used various papers to make a landscape scene (lots of time invested) and used stick glue to secure everything in place. It was hard to find something to mix the two solutions in; I don't have extra throw-away smooth-sided plastic cups around. The finish made the paper look permanently "wet" (dark), ruining my scene. Hot things (tea pot, mugs, etc.) stick to the finish and leave an impression in the surface for a while. It is NOT heat resistant! Pulling a hot mug of tea off of the tray can be difficult and dangerous, and it doesn't mention anywhere that it will change how different substrates look. I do not recommend this product for practical use, like my tray (or a laptop tray). However, it may be fine for purely decorative items. Also, it would have been hard to spread the liquid anywhere before setting. It may have dripped over edges and not stayed on in an equal-thickness layer, so it may not be good for sealing a sculpture for instance. I'm not sure how they could have done the projects pictured on some of their products.
Enviro Tex Lite Pours on Glossy Finish June 25, 2008 Carol Taller (New Jersey) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Enviro Tex Lite comes with two solutions that must be mixed together. When the combined solution bubbles, you know that you are almost ready to pour. It is recommended that you pour a very thin layer, and then pour another layer if you want it thicker. If the mix dries and hardens but bubbles are still visible, you can use a flame to release the bubbles. It took a lot of playing to learn the technique that works best, and the customer service people at Envirotex were very helpful. The directions clearly state to work in a well ventilated room, so beware before you start.
Once I learned the technique I found the mixing and pouring is easy, and my surface looks terrific! The finished product comes out thick and professional looking.
