Product Description
The Wagner Paint Crew is an airless piston pump sprayer with the performance of a contractor sprayer yet designed for the homeowner. The paint crew uses standard reversible spray tips and comes complete with hose, tip and metal spray gun.

Amazon.com Product Description
The Wagner Spray Tech Paint Crew paint sprayer is specifically designed to spray most architectural coatings including thick (un-thinned) exterior latex paints. The Paint Crew offers the same quality spray pattern as high-priced contractor units, but it's easier to use and more affordable, making it an ideal tool for the do-it-yourselfer. Whether you're painting just the fence or your entire home, the Paint Crew is simple to operate and easy-to-clean for years of trouble-free operation. Wagner's innovative 413 reversible spray tip provides a superior finish and lets you clear clogs fast with a twist of the wrist. A 3/8-horsepower piston pump cranks out 2,750 PSI for tackling multi-story painting projects quickly. A convenient carrying handle and lightweight design ensure easy transport. Best of all, with simplified set-up and clean up, the Paint Crew makes even smaller projects fast and easy. Plus, a 2-gallon hopper offers longer spray time (and less downtime) on those extended applications.

Note: This is a factory reconditioned tool and may contain cosmetic blemishes.

5 out of 5 stars a great value   September 4, 2008
timm (Bay Area)

I had to refinish our cabin's 900+ sq. ft. deck. It was a large area with only my wife and I doing it. So I decided to try this product. I usually don't buy anything reconditioned and I wasn't happy with a smaller Wagner sprayer I had bought before. But I decided to give this unit a try and bought the replacement plan also - just in case.

Cleaning the deck took 4-5 hrs., a day to dry, and only 1 1/2 hour to spray stain sealer on the entire deck including the rails. I was astonished. We were able to enjoy the rest of the labor day weekend!

A project the I had thought would take 1 to 2 days for 2 people, took less than 2 hours and the stain was applied more consistently, deeper and smoother than before when it had been done by hand.

Cleaning the equipment took about 1 1/2 hours but I'm sure it won't take as long the next time. It is well worth the time and there are no difficult parts or places to reach to clean, just multiple steps. (It wasn't all that messy either.)

This sprayer worked exactly as I hoped and even beyond my expectations.
After this experience, using this sprayer to paint the whole cabin next year is a real possibility.

5 out of 5 stars Saved me a ton of time and work!   August 27, 2008

I bought the refurbished Paint Crew 770 to paint my house and I'm really glad I did. I was able to spray the whole house in a few hours. Unpacking it, I could tell it had been used before, but it was cleaned up very well. The hose, spray tip and manual were all new, and I believe the filter was too. From other reviews I was worried about the thickness of my exterior paint clogging up the spray gun. I was using Pittsburgh ultra exterior latex satin finish, and I never had any trouble at all, not even a single clog. The sprayer put down a very nice pattern that was easy to work with, and I was able to cover dark green with light beige on metal siding with just one coat! The only thing at all negative I can say was that the hose was a little stiff, but it got more flexible as the day heated up. I did add a swivel connector (Google "insert swivel connector airless" and it will be the first result) which definitely made it easier.
Here are some tips that really helped me out. If you need to stop spraying for a while (10+ minutes) and you are using latex based paint, you can just dunk the spray gun in a bucket of water and leave it there until you return. You'll also want to keep the paint in the hopper from drying out by pouring about a cup of water on top of the paint and swishing it around to cover the entire surface. Just mix the water into the paint when you are ready to start again. I was able to pause painting for six hours between coats on some shutters this way and it was like I never stopped.
After you refill, the pump may run continuously and you can't spray. If this happens, it's probably because the inlet valve is stuck shut. Wagner recognized this problem and provides a plastic tab sticking up in the bottom of the hopper that you can press with a paint stirrer - this will in turn push the inlet vale and free it. You'll know you got it when the pump reaches its pressure limit and stops.
Cleanup is not nearly as bad as it sounds. In fact it makes sense if you just think about it for a second. Get the paint out of the hopper, clean the hopper, get the paint out of the hose and gun, clean the hose and gun. There is a tube that goes to the top of the hopper that is used for priming the pump. It is flexible so you can make it dump anywhere you want. When you put the sprayer on the "prime" setting, it will pump whatever is in the hopper though this tube. Just stick the end of the tube in your original paint container and switch to prime, and it will pump all the leftover paint out of the hopper. Use a silicone or rubber spatula to get every last drop to the inlet valve. Now rinse out the hopper. Fill it with clean water, turn it on prime again except this time have the tube dump into a waste container. Keep pumping clean water though the system until the prime tube runs clear.
Now we need to get the paint out of the hose. Fill the hopper with clean water. Remove the spray tip from the gun and throw in a bucket of water. Put the machine on "spray", and trigger the gun into your original paint container until water starts coming out. Seal up your paint container, that's all you're getting back. Take the gun off the hose and take it apart (handle, filter, spring, washer, swivel (if you bought one) and main gun assembly) and throw it in a bucket of water - hand wash these parts and the spray tip.
Fill the hopper with clean water again and run the machine on "spray" until water coming out of the hose is clear. I also run it without water in the hopper until the hose has no more water in it, but not sure if that's advisable or not. I'll risk it.
Hand wash the gun parts. The manual says to drop some oil in the gun body for storage, but does not say what kind. You can use any kind of clean oil really. Wagner makes some especially for this, but you can also use 3 in 1 oil, hydraulic oil, motor oil, or even canola oil. Drop about a tablespoon of oil into the inlet vale in the hopper too to protect the piston.
It sounds complicated but once you've done it once or twice it is really quite easy. I can do it in about 25 minutes now. Just make sure you put the filter back in the right way, otherwise you'll get lots of pressure and no paint next time.

4 out of 5 stars Great little paint sprayer.   August 16, 2008

We used the sprayer to paint our cottage. It worked without a hitch and made a job that could have lasted all summer, short work.

5 out of 5 stars great sprayer, but not quite perfect   August 16, 2008
K. Kuhlman (New Mexico)
First of all, the reconditioned sprayer I received was like new. I was pleasantly surprised at that. It worked great, I painted two coats of heavy latex stucco paint on my house in one day.

The paint crew unit works well, but there are a couple things about it that could be improved about it. First, with thick paint it breaks suction with anything less than 1/2 a tank of paint (> 1 gal, I think). The paint reservoir is wide and flat, rather than tall and narrow. Two inches of paint in the tank is a lot. In my case this was ok, since I bought too much paint in the first place. In the cleanup, I used a spatula to clean out the tank, back into the paint bucket, but was surprised when there was HUGE amount of paint left in the spray hose. After cleaning out the yellow reservoir and filling it with soapy water, it took over a minute for paint to stop coming out of the spray gun. That was > 1 pint of paint I wasted!

Secondly, the red spray hose is really stiff and hard to manage, but I got used to this. The swivel attachment might have helped.

I didn't have any plugging issues. Only once did it spray funny; flipping the nozzle around fixed that right away.

Some things you will need: 1) long electrical extension cord 2) light household oil for storage 3) respirator 4) something to cover your head/hair.

Overall: 1) buy reconditioned and save yourself money 2) the unit is only useful for large jobs since cleanup and storage is significant, 3) it takes a bit to get used to and can be frustrating at times, but it really is a time-saver overall. 4) I was a little creeped out by all the warnings about how badly you can injure yourself with a 2880 psi airless paint sprayer (spray your hand -> amputation?!?). I guess it isn't for the clumsy?

2 out of 5 stars my first impression / disappointed   August 15, 2008

finally i got my paint sprayer.
gone through reading a lot of reviews and finally settled for reconditioned Wagner sprayer. unfortunately unlike others, mine came look very dirty and used. i could probably cleaned it better. still see some white paint inside of transparent hose as well as inside of pail container.
the gun has sharp knick at handle. who was responsible for quality control. it might been randomly checked or possibly one of those friday afternoon production. i was disappointed as soon as i opened the box. if you expect to see something close to new, mine has definite look of used machine. not thoughly cleaned. i purchase a lot things from amazon but this was the worst ever in years. add one more note: the two screws and butterfly nuts hold the handle was missing.
e-bay sells better things than this.
