Great for basements! September 12, 2009 George Bought this product and refills to use in our finished basement which is very damp and started to smell like mildew. I setup 4 of the canisters in different area's of the basement, the mildew smell went away and it is much less damp down there now. The DampRid crystals dissolve into water which you should empty every once in a while and refill the canisters as well. I have also purchased many refills of this product, it's great. Note: This cost $11.99 online, at Lowes it was $3.77 for the same item, I ordered this online before I checked Lowes, obviously the price is much better at the store.
Clean air July 29, 2008 Robert Bressler (Biloxi, Mississippi) I've only had this product, about a week or so, and it seems to be working. The air inside the house seems cleaner. It does go quickly though. I bought some extra crystals and as soon as the cups are full of water, I replace them.
Fantastic product for damp smelly closets. June 22, 2008 I. OLeary (Sacramento, CA United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I can't live without this in the damp No Cal winters. Can't tell you how much time I spent looking for the source of the bad odor before I found out by using this that it was mold encouraged by dampness. This took care of it. I now buy in bulk.
Pulls out excessive moisture... May 21, 2008 classyglrl but I find it does nothing for the air quality itself. I have a huge dehumidifier in my basement's den...but the thing is louder than a jet plane.
Figured this was cheap for a quick fix and obviously quiet for my basement bedroom and it does magically work... BUT the tiles immediately next to the container was still sweaty-wet. Plus, having about a dozen of these containers is unsightly...AND I had to empty the containers CONSTANTLY not to mention refill it often...so often I think I spent about a $100 a year on this stuff...so cheap in short run does NOT mean cheap in the long run. Plus...who wants to deal with chemicals, albeit nontoxic chemicals? Even with all these containers of this stuff, the air still felt clammy... I invested in a small "petite" size dehumidifier instead.
BTW.... the cheapest I found in a B&M store is LNT: the 42oz refills ($3.99), the refillable containers ($3.09) and you can use the 20% off coupons that they mail out all the time.
Easy way to handle moisture July 28, 2007 K. Skonberg (TN) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have a wet basement and have used damp rid in each room of my house. You'll be amazed at how much water they collect! I use these in addition to a dehumidifer in my basement and it helps control mold and mildew in my house. The closet hangers are especially great!
