The Good: Innovative, award-winning game gets kids moving, develops confidence
The Bad: Game components may not stand up to extended use
In a Nutshell: Energizing, creative, confidence-building game | At a Glance Ages: 4 through 8 Requires: Minimal, simple assembly | | | I Can Do That! Is for kids ages four through eight and is designed for two to four players, making this an ideal family game. Innovative Game Gets Kids Moving This is not your traditional board game. I Can Do That! comes with imaginative props inspired by the classic children's book The Cat In the Hat by Dr. Seuss, as well as a deck of color-coded cards that provide funny, challenging activities. To start, a player picks one of each of the three color cards. Taken together, the cards create a fun and funny activity the player is challenged to do. For example, Card 1 could read "Take Four Giant Steps," Card 2 "With the Cake," and Card 3 "On your head!" Each card also has one, two, or three stars on it for score keeping purposes. If the player wants to take the challenge, he says "I can do that!" and proceeds. If he succeeds, he keeps the cards in his own scoring pile. If he doesn't think he can do the activity, he can re-draw until he gets an activity that he can do. But watch out: if he draws a "Stop!" card, he must give up his cards and end his turn. The player with the most stars in the scoring pile wins the game. Creative, Funny Activities Build Confidence The beauty of this game is in its simplicity. Easy-to-follow instructions and super-easy assembly ensure that your family will be playing in no time, with minimal frustration -- a must for the enthusiastic, shorter attention spans of younger kids. We also love that this game goes beyond traditional board games to get kids up and moving. This is great both for energetic youngsters who lack the patience to focus quietly and for children who need a bit more motivation to get physical. Kids will have a lot of fun balancing, crawling, leaping, and skipping with the whimsical props. They'll enjoy watching each other, and they'll learn to compete in an entertaining environment. We also love that the game's structure encourages kids to challenge themselves, while the option of drawing and re-drawing cards still gives them the choice to play at their comfort levels. The simple, generalized game instructions are open it to many variations, and the instructions actually encourage families to customize the rules to their children's abilities and desires. The only concern we had was with the game's durability. The foam pieces definitely won't last as long as your vintage Monopoly set. But on the plus side, the flexible, soft props guard well against injuries or mishaps. What's in the Box One deck of color-coded cards, foam and plastic props, and instruction card.
Children pick cards to try different fun and funny challenges. |

Cute, but not great November 7, 2009 M. Frank (Oakton, Virginia USA) I agree with the other reviewers, that this game has a cute concept, but it's not executed too well. I like the playful and colorful look of it, that it gets the kids up and moving, and that it ties in to a great classic kids book. But the "trick-a-ma-stick" is hard to assemble, and falls apart easily. It's made of a thin "pool noodle" material held together with plastic brackets, and my kids (age 3 and 6) can't assemble it themselves, and get annoyed when it keeps toppling over. I also agree with other reviewers that there should be more variety in the activity cards - the game does get a little tiresome. Seems to me they cheaped out on this game a bit. But isn't that how most toys are these days? So disappointing.
It uses imagination September 9, 2009 J. Bailey I like how creative this game is and the things it gets you to do. I love after some time the kids just make up their own moves. We never use the foam stick; it's true that it's not built well but it still helps us to be creative. Instead I will have them go under the table, a stick or something silly we put up. I like that we're creative with it but the point is why do I have to redo your game that I paid for. I suggest they redo the game without the stick and just have more items to use. You don't need the stick anyway.
A Fun Game August 17, 2009 P. Smith (Pittsburgh, PA USA) I bought this as a gift for my 4 year old daughter, a year later she still enjoys it. This game is a different variety from your typical board game, making a good addition to your board game collection. The pieces are somewhat flimsy in that they bend and fold easily, but they are made of strong enough foam and plastic that barring complete misuse they will last as long as you want them too. The game play is involved and silly and your child enjoys performing their task as well as watching you and other players have to perform a given task. The pictures on the cards describing what task you must complete are well thought out and become easy for a child to figure out with slight repetition without knowing how to read them. Overall this was a fun purchase that I am happy to have made.
Maybe for 2 to 3 year olds June 4, 2009 HawaiiZ (Big Island Hawaii) Lame Junk. Boring wast of time. The Foam Goalie doest stand up. Waste of money for my 4 yo. Thew it away, wasn't worth giving it away.

This was a total waste of money. Went into the trash very soon after my granddaughter got it, too much of a hassle!
