The wireless remote is outside in the pump house and alerts us if the temperature gets below freezing so we can prevent the pipes from freezing.

The La Crosse Technology 9160U Digital Thermometer with Wireless Remote is an improved replacement for our former La Crosse Technology Wireless Weather Station with Forecast Model WS-7211U-CBP.
After several years frustration with the former model's temperature accuracy (compared with two other devices in the vicinity) and its tentative electronics (the digital clock inexplicably stopped functioning), we gave La Crosse a second chance with the better looking, easier to read (especially from a distance) and seemingly more temperature accurate 9160U. So far so good.

Don't waste your money. I purchased the 9160U (which comes with one TX29U transmitter) and 2 TX37U transmitters. I followed the link from Amazon through to La Crosse's website and tried to verify that the TX37U worked with the 9160U. As far as I could tell the website said it did.
When the products arrived I tried multiple times to follow the poorly worded setup instructions, waiting the indicated interval between each attempt.
Only the first transmitter was recognized by the 9160U.
I called La Crosse customer service (not available on weekends) and was told that
the TX37U was NOT compatible with the 9160U. So, I shipped the TX37Us back to Amazon and ordered 2 TX29U transmitters.
When these arrived I tried again and this time NONE of the transmitters were recognized by the 9160U. This time I returned the whole lot.
Amazon's return policy worked well. They refunded the purchase price plus the estimated postage, so all I lost was the time trying to make the product work and the time standing in line at the post office to return it.

It was a little smaller than I expected based on the picture (even though I read the dimensions). The display is very easy to read even across a room. I mounted this one in my kitchen and bought two wireless remotes for it. One remote is in my backyard so I can monitor the outdoor temperature (so I can make sure the dog is cozy when it is cold outside and/or my pool doesn't freeze). The other I keep in my garage (I am a home brewer and use it to monitor fermentation temps). This unit is easy to set, the only hassle is when the batteries on the main unit need to be replaced you have to follow a specific procedure to get it to pick up the wireless remote signals. Not a big hassle, I just wish it was automatic. You can either hang this (it has a screw mount) or it has a stand for use on a counter/table. Overall I am happy with this unit.
