3 out of 5 stars Reasons NOT to Buy this Seat   November 2, 2009

I'll cut to the chase - while this IS a very safe car seat for children to ride in, it is NOT an easy seat for some parents to deal with.

This seat is BIG; if you don't drive an SUV or mini-van it will gobble up your back seat.

This seat is DEEP; newborns can be very difficult to extract from the seat without pulling them by the arms or shirt front. Additionally smaller newborns can experience breathing difficulties from neck flexion as the seat tends to push their chin down to their chest.

This seat is HEAVY; that gal you saw happily arm carrying her infant in it's seat at the store isn't gonna be you. This seat is gonna make you work for it - and wake the little one sleeping while you do it, because its weight makes it very awkward getting in and out of the vehicle as well as extremely cumbersome to simply carry. Door frames, you will soon learn, are not your friend.

This seat's straps were designed by the Devil himself. The straps are too short to pull out of the way for the child's placement, so you always end up setting the child on top, then pulling them out from underneath - again guaranteeing that you will wake them. As well, the vaunted 5 point buckle requires a form a hand strength that is usually reserved for professional wrestlers - only the buckle is barely large enough for the average adult hand to manipulate. Its great fun to time yourself trying to get the silly thing open when Baby is in full battle cry. Once you have it open, its back to fighting with the straps again as they aren't long enough to fully pull out of the way, and will repeatedly grab the child up around the shoulders and arms.

Lastley, this seat is HOT; the number one reason for mid-drive pull overs - sweaty screaming kid.

4 out of 5 stars VERY snug in compact cars   October 23, 2009

This is a great car seat, I like the fact that my baby will be able to use it for a year. And it is very safe. But it is bigger than others, or course, and more awkward for me to carry than I thought it would be. I leave it in the car when possible and use my front carrier. Also I didn't give the car a second thought, we have a new 4-door civic with a pretty roomy back seat (I thought) and this car seat only fits if you push the passenger seat up so far that my knees tough the dashboard (I'm 5'3"). So it works, and will be great for when I'm running errands by myself, but with two adults and our baby it is a very snug fit.

4 out of 5 stars Mostly satisfied...just a few annoying quirks.   October 18, 2009

We have had the Graco SafeSeat (in a different print) for a year now. We got a SafeSeat style that included head support for baby and really like that (she still uses it at 1 year!). Overall, we like the SafeSeat.

Pros:
- It seems comfortable for baby, and it's easy to get her strapped in. It took a little practice for grandparents to figure out how to tighten and loosen the straps though.
- Good-sized canopy to block out the sun/light when she's napping.
- Definitely great to use with snap 'n go stroller!
- Good quality product - sturdy materials.

Cons:
- It's a heavy car seat that only gets heavier as baby grows, but we knew that when we bought it. I'm only 5'2". My husband is taller and stronger, and he started hating how heavy the seat was to carry pretty early on. If you're just moving the car seat from the car to the snap 'n go stroller, it's not so bad.
- The harness straps don't tighten evenly for some reason (I have rethreaded and tinkered many, many times and can't figure out what the deal is). It's not a huge enough difference to make us concerned about safety, but it's not ideal.
- Have to take everything apart to remove cover to clean it (but since I've had so much practice rethreading it to try to get the harness straps even, I guess that's no big deal...ha!).

5 out of 5 stars Glad we went with the larger size   October 14, 2009
Ginger (Arlington, VA United States)
As my husband and I are tall, we reasoned that it might be safe to assume we should purchase items for a taller baby. So glad we went with the Snug-fit 32 - my son is statistically taller than ALL babies his age and the car seat is the only baby contraption he shows no sign of growing out of. The seat works with the regular SnugFit Snap-n-go stroller frame and, especially with a heavy baby, we find the mix a life saver, pushing him from the house out to the car in his stroller frame. A girlfriend has the same seat as we and says that it also fits into her jogging stroller of another brand. Be aware that the strap system is not intuitive. Read the directions and it's really important that you use the little release button under the flap near baby's feet or you'll make yourself nuts. The pattern is nice and gender neutral, so we look forward to using it with our next baby.

4 out of 5 stars Great investment, super safe and amazingly easy to install!   October 10, 2009
Allison M. Perkel (Boston)
I love the snugride32, its got a ton of space for my baby to grow into, a headrest for while he's and infant and needs the extra support, and a super simple installation process.

I'll talk about the car first. The base, thankfully, is latch based. With my car (and most cars) that simply means taking the hooks on the car base and attaching them to the metal loops behind the seat. Once you have them in, make sure the strap is good and tight. Now, here's the killer improvement, in the center of the car seat base is a latch that unlocks and where you thread the strap slack thru! This is genius. Now you have the base fully secured from two directions and the car base will not move no matter how tight the turn! This is great if your spouse (or you) drive like you are on a racing track - or if you are simply trying to zoom in and out of traffic downtown.

The car seat itself has a simple latch that attaches, quite securely, to the base. Getting the seat in and out is simply a snap in it and pull the release and lift out. This takes a whole 5 seconds.

The other great thing, the car seat rocks, literally! This way, when we are enjoying a night out at a neighborhood restaurant and out little man starts to cry, 99 out of 100 times all I'll need to do is put the car seat on the floor and rock him back to sleep. I can't tell you how awesome this is!

The only marks against this seat are the weight and the internal shoulder strap pads. The weight is something you can't really do much about and for the shoulder strap pads, well, they seemed like they were cutting into our baby so we replaced them with some 10$ sheepskin style pads.

This is a great car seat at a very decent price. The matching infant stroller is also a great deal too.
