Product Description Honeywell Quiet Care, True Hepa Air Purifier, Incorporates Patented Airflow Technology With Sound Reducing Features For Ultra Quiet High Speed Operation, Removes 99.97% Minimum Effectiveness At Capturing Airborne Particles As Small As 0.3 Microns From The Air That Passes Through, Soft Touch Electronic Controls With 3 Speeds & Indicator Lights, Intelli Check Feature Electronically Monitors Filter Usage, Easy Filter Access For Convenient Replacement, 5 Year Limited Warranty, Room Size 12' x 14' Uses Replacement Pre Filter #38002 & Replacement Hepa Filter #HRF 11 (2 Filters Required)
Amazon.com Review This portable air cleaner is recommended for filtering the air in a closed room as large as 168 square feet (12 by 14 feet). As it continuously circulates a room's air--about six times per hour--it employs two filters to remove smoke, pollen, dust, animal dander, dust mites, molds, bacteria, viruses, and odors. Especially useful for asthmatics and allergy sufferers, the cleaner contains a true HEPA filter that is at least 99.97 percent effective at trapping extremely tiny particles (as small as 0.3 microns) while a prefilter reduces odors. Honeywell's IntelliCheck system permits monitoring the filters' lives. Each filter has a button. Pressing a button activates a light, which blinks or shines steadily. One blink indicates that the filter has lots of life remaining, two blinks means less life, three blinks means even less, and a steady light indicates the filter needs changing. The HEPA filter lasts one to three years; the prefilter, three months. Filter replacement is simple, and replacement filters can be ordered separately. The air cleaner has three speeds, and all are exceptionally quiet for an air cleaner this large and powerful. It carries a five-year warranty against defects. --Fred Brack

Works Great and it is as quiet as it can be. November 1, 2009 D. Corman (Maine, USA) This little unit works great. I've only had it for a month, so... it's longevity is what I'll be watching. I run it 24/7. AS FOR THE NOISE: I had read a lot of reviews complaining about the noise. My question to those reviewers is: Compared to what? This unit is as quiet as an appliance with a fan and motor can be. It's about as loud as an air conditioner. Filters are easy to remove and replace for cleaning.
Helps with cat allergies November 1, 2009 Love Keeping it Simple (Boston, MA) This product is highly effective in filtering the air in our bedroom (12'x15'). We live in an urban condo on a major traffic thoroughfare lined with oak trees. We also have an adorable cat, who unfortunately through no fault of her own, aggravates my husband's allergies :) Therefore, we deal with pollution, pollen, and animal dander issues in our home. This air purifier is relatively quiet, has 3 speed settings, and has a permanent HEPA filter which we clean out using our HEPA rated vacuum cleaner - - and that saves money on replacement filters. So far we've seen leaps and bounds in the improvement of my husband's allergies while using this unit.
It isn't silent - - but we don't find the noise to be disturbing; it's actually kind of a white noise that drowns out less appealing traffic sounds from outside our building. It's about the size of a hatbox stood on its side, or bedroom wastebasket - - not inconspicuous by any means, but for an effective air purifier I think you have to put up with a decent-sized unit. For the benefits it provides, we don't mind the sound or the size.
We choose to leave the unit on 24/7 on "Low," and once a week after I thoroughly vacuum and clean our home, I shut the bedroom door and run it on "high" for about 2 hours.
This unit worked so well for us, we actually bought another one for our 2nd bedroom, and a larger Honeywell air purifier for our living room area.
Nice design but bad quality control. October 10, 2009 Tatanta 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I like the design. It's not too big and not heavy, and the handle makes it easy to move. I bought 3. One went bad after a week. I got a replacement. The replacement was defective out of the box. Makes me question the build quality.
Noise isn't bad. September 10, 2009 M. Kirst 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I have this filter and the larger round one. I do run it in my bedroom and I don't mind the "whoosh" noise at all. In fact I've grown to like it because it is just the right amount of white noise to mask other noises at night such as neighborhood dogs barking and cars. The whoosh and the slight feeling of fresh air movement in the room when it's on is actually a good thing to me. Just my personal opinion.
Honeywell 17000 Pure HEPA QuietCare Air Purifier September 8, 2009 diGi54 (Palm Coast, Florida) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Overall wonderful product. Does a fantastic job of recycling and cleaning the room air. I primarily use this in my office, where I am most of the time. Don't tell anyone, but sometimes there is smoke (I know), and it really does remove all remnants of this nasty and terrible habit. I keep the door closed and the room is around 13'X13'. Smells pretty good after an hour of recycling. Used to burn candles ... but no more.
In the evening, I bring the unit downstairs into our family room which is open and around 18'X13'. It does a great job there as well.
At night, we bring it into our bedroom (19X16) and it runs all night. The room actually smells different in the morning ... fresh and clean like springtime.
For some reason, we tend to have a lot of dust in the house, especially in the Summer months. We live in Florida and the AC is running constantly. This has a tendency to move air and dust around. This unit traps that dust and removes it from the air. Very cool.
Very portable, lightweight, permanent HEPA filter, three speeds, replaceable charcoal pre-filter, all kinds of nice alerts for replacing or cleaning the filters, circulates and recycles the air very well ... what else could one ask for at this price point!
No issue whatsoever with noise. Honestly, I don't use the high speed setting. Medium speed does the trick. It sounds like a fan blowing air and is not disturbing to us in any way. Actually, quite soothing at night.
In my office, I am on the phone a good deal of the time with customer's and even though the unit is running at medium speed, it is not distracting to me. I keep the unit away from walls, so it can circulate and distribute the air properly.
Access to the filter couldn't be easier ... a large wheel removes the side cover for immediate access to the filters.
I am considering buying another one to keep in our bedroom most of the time, as my wife has really bad allergies and it is best if the unit remains in the room throughout the day on low speed ... to really keep the air nice and purified.
