Works great! September 14, 2009 SWalt (Louisiana) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I bought this product for my son. He's eight years old and suffers from allergies. He woke up every morning sneezing, and with a stuffy nose. I was looking for an alternative to giving him allergy medication every day. We keep it on the desk, right next to his bed. It's incredibly quiet and it has helped his allergies a lot. After about a month of constant use on the medium setting, I vacuumed the filter. It was filty. I was very impressed with how much dust it pulled from the air.
Quiet time August 25, 2009 VG (N. Dakota) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This air cleaner is super quiet on low. It's nice have an air cleaner that isn't noisy like a hair dryer. I recommend this one.
filter is not made well August 6, 2009 Wowly (CA) 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
I actually was expecting a better quality permanent filter but was disappointed. It a filter made of nylon or something like that surrounded by cardboard. It would have be far better to have made the filter washable and better quality. I do not believe that this filter will continue to work well just by vacuuming it, just will not hold up and I am not sure if the filter is replaceable.
The best one we've tried June 21, 2009 Stamp Lady (Wisconsin) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Our daughter has allergies and we've tried several different air purifiers. This is by far the best we've tried. It is much quieter than others, compact size, the filter is permanent, and it works great. We are getting another one for another room.
Not worth it for dust allergies June 3, 2009 Aileen Chen (SF Bay Area) 3 out of 7 found this review helpful
I've been waging a long time battle with the dust mites in my room. They tend to aggravate my sinuses, which in turn affect my sleep quality.
I used to have a different Hamilton Beach filter that was ~$50 retail, and required new filters every 3 months. A couple months ago when I went to replace it, I saw they didn't offer the replacement filter anymore at a reasonable price. That's when I stumbled upon this filter. I wouldn't recommend this for someone suffering from dust allergies.
You can still hear it on quiet mode, so I usually leave it off until the evening hours...and then I crank it to high for a bit in my bedroom before turning it off. It seems to do the job well enough, but if you suffer from dust allergies the way I do, I'd recommend more environmental controls rather than plunking down money on a low end filter like this.
Encase your sheets and pillows with mite-proof coverings. Vacuum all surfaces regularly, and wash sheets regularly. These will be more effective than this filter. And as a side bonus, your room will always be clean :)
