Replacement filter... November 16, 2009 Homeowner in Georgia (Marietta, GA) Well. not much to say, works just like the GE one. No noticeable difference in flow or taste!
Worth every penny November 16, 2009 Jeffrey Sanders (Phoenix, MD) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
A GE Repairman indicated that all appliances will break, but that GE's model is specifically designed so that a network of repairmen continue to bring revenue back to the company. He also noted that all GE appliances have diagnostic devices, and that GE doesn't share its diagnostic codes with the industry in order to protect its turf. While I can understand how this makes for good business and revenue, it unsettled me. My refrigerator was a lot of money. When I purchased it, I was looking for an appliance, not a hobby. So when it came down to whether I buy the GE water filter or go with a third-party, I had no problem looking for third-party filters. The Brita filters work just as well (if not better) than the GE filters. The filter that came with the refrigerator worked for a little over 2 mos, and then the "Change Filter" alarm went off. I spoke with the same repairmen who noted that as long as water passes through the filter, they're still safe to use. He also told me that the reason that the alarm goes off is to try to get you to purchase more filters... again, more revenue.
While from what I understand pretty much all appliances nowadays are of the same quality, I wasn't too happy with the fact that GE keeps expecting me to spend money on an already incredibly expensive appliance, manufactured overseas, and according to the repairman, "Made to break." If anything, the price of filters should be going down, but GE's prices seem to just be going up. The Brita filters are just a smart move.
It does work November 8, 2009 Michael C. Garramone (Henderson, NV USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
They do work, at least for me, as long as you follow the directions: fill it up with water first and run it for three minutes. If you really want it full that means putting a little water in, waiting a couple of seconds for the filter to suck it up, and repeating quite a few times until it does not take anymore water. It does fit in my GE Profile Arctica fridge. The form of the GE and Brita filters looked identical. It installed easily. I then ran it for a good three minutes, a little more actually. It is a little loud for those first three minutes and sputters a bit, but that goes away fast. The flow does not seem slower at all. It really is not that much cheaper than the GE brand, if not the same price nowadays, but my wife wanted something to taste better. I don't know if it tastes better, but it tastes different, softer maybe is how I would describe it. I like it though. I also originally thought "wow, this new filter is so much lighter than the old one" but of course the old one was still full of water and the new one was right out of the box. Duh. I have not held two new ones side by side.
Great filters, quick service! November 4, 2009 M. Oborn (Florida) Items were sent as promised, getting here faster than promised. Great pricing and a wonderful product means that I will shop with this vendor again. I reccomend this vendor to anyone as trustworthy and honest.

Decent filter, probably won't buy again November 3, 2009 Ted (Phoenix, AZ) I've used Brita filters many times for other applications, so was excited to find this one to replace the OEM GE filter at a much better price. I'm somewhat disappointed with it however, in that I've only had it a few weeks and can already detect a slight taste in the water. My last GE filter lasted 11 months before I could taste anything. Let me note, however, that this slight taste is not horrible by any means, and I can only tell it's there when I let the water sit for a short time and warm up to room temp. I'm pretty sensitive to water taste, so most people probably would never even notice it.
Several other reviews indicated that the water flow is not the same as the GE MWF. I noticed a slight reduction in flow as well, but it's negligible (unless you're extremely impatient). If you buy this and get NO flow, take it out, and start over reading the instructions first. Fill it with water ALL the way, just like it says. I usually tap mine on the counter a few times to get all the air out of it, and it works fine. If you leave air in it, it's not going to work.
I would have rated it much better if it weren't for the hint of taste that water shouldn't have. Overall, it's a great value. For me personally, I will probably switch back to the GE filter once this one bites the dust, but we'll see.
