Wein AS150MM Air Purifier November 13, 2009 Alan Wishengrad (Livingston, NJ United States) My wife has used the same model for years and it has proven to be very effective. On a recent trip to China where the air is known not to be so clean, she wore her purifier constantly and was among the few that did not get an upper respiratory ailment. After getting a very bad cold upon returning home from a recent flight, I decided to purchase a purifier for my use in an attempt to prevent similar occurrences.
Although I have not used the air purifier for that long, if it proves to be as effective for me as it has been for my wife, I will be very satisfied.
Prefer Filter Stream August 29, 2009 S. Falk (Los Angeles, CA USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I had a tough time deciding between the Wein Mini-Mate and the Filter Stream from Advanced Cleaning Appliances, so I bought both. Between the two, I'd definitely recommend the Filter Stream. The Wein Web site refers to University testing and that it performed better than competitive units, but does not link to the actual studies or name the competitors involved in such research. If, in fact, the Wein Mini-Mate was actually tested against the Filter Stream I might change my mind - otherwise go with the Filter Stream. Please note, too, the cost of replacement batteries for the Wien device and the battery lifespan vs. thjose for the Filter Stream.
Happy little 'Ion Mate': Travel protection June 7, 2009 Seth Friedman (Santa Fe NM) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have been wanting one of these for a long time and FINALLY ordered it on the eve of a longish trip with different travel-legs (flights) just after having had an unusually persistent cold (3 weeks) AND the Swine Flu panic was in full-swing. I wasn't buying into the health-tsunami media frenzy, but I DID feel some positive effects of the Air Purifier while immersed in stale 'plane air'- if only a sense of 'protection' and freshness with the ion stream. It also seemed to slightly soften the after-effects I typically get from the altitude changes after making such trip. Am happy i got it and so far battery life seems reasonably good. (Local battery shop told me not to bother with rechargeables in this particular size; says they are not very cost effective or long-lasting.)
Not sure it did much May 31, 2009 A. Fenrick (Oakland, CA USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this to wear on international flights in the height of the swine flu scare. I wore it on a non stop flight from California to New York. It was easy enough, inconspicuous and the air had a not unpleasant scent. I did not get sick though there were many coughing and sneezing people on the plane. I did not wear it from New York to London nor did I wear it from London to San Francisco. There were still coughing and sneezing people on the flights but. . . I did not get sick. So all of this to say, I don't know if this gadget was worth the expense.
Works May 7, 2009 Parth Vasa (Sunnyvale, CA, USA) Just got it. It really does stop my sneezes and red eyes, some sniffles remain but I am way better. Take it off and allergies kick in. I wonder how it does in windy conditions or air condition drafts?
