Very good diaper pail March 11, 2010 D. Glasser (Boston, MA) I purchased this pail in anticipation of the masses of dirty diapers my upcoming baby would provide. Neither my son nor the pail failed to meet my expectations.
The Diaper Genie II Elite does its job well. It holds about 2 days worth of dirty diapers. It's in the corner of the nursery and unless it's full and open, it emanates little to no odor.
On the down side, the liner refills do cost money. That's the only reason I gave this 4 stars instead of 5. I'd estimate 1 liner pack lasts about 2.5 weeks. At seven dollars each, that comes to about a hundred and fifty dollars a year. Not cheap at all.
Overall, if you're willing to spend the cash on the refills, this product is worth it.
Glorified Trash Can, Expensive Refills February 25, 2010 Tom C (Irvine, CA United States) The Diaper Genie in and of itself isn't bad, but there's nothing magical about it either. As a trash can for diapers, it's OK, but I can only give it two stars for two reasons:
* It's billed as some kind of magical device that's going to port your smelly diapers to a better place, when in reality, it's a cheap although stylish plastic bin with a plastic bag inside.
* The cartridges are such a rip-off! At about 7 bucks each, they last less than a month, or about 4-5 Diaper Genie loads of diapers. Think of how many regular trash bags you can get for $7 (I just bought a box of 200 for $8).
That being said, you can still use a Diaper Genie and save a ton of money (I estimate we'll save about $200 over the next two years) by simply using regular trash bags in place of the way-overpriced cartridges. Simply buy 16 gallon tall kitchen bags and insert the top of the bag into the lip of a spent cartridge. I can't guarantee the odor control will be as good necessarily (but no reason why it can't be) but I can guarantee you'll save a ton of money.
Great until it breaks February 21, 2010 Steve T (Washington) This new Diaper Genie is much easier to use than the previous version. It has the added benefit of keeping the smell down and NOT having you touch the device to get the diaper in. All in all, while it is working, it is awesome. We have twin boys and go through a LOT of diapers.
Unfortunately, this device is so cheaply made that if the flaps catch at all while you are placing the dirty diaper in it they get jammed. Once it happens a few times and someone (like grandma) tries to force it, the cheap plastic parts smash into smithereens and the "jaws" will not open up any more. It lasted about two months.
No stinky diaper pail! February 19, 2010 Matthew D. Johnson (Chicago, IL) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Ok, not to put too fine a point on it: this thing rocks. We tried other diaper pails, and they're messy and hard to use. The Diaper Genie is easy to clean, easy to change, and has a pretty substantial capacity.
If you're having a baby, this is a must for your registry or your list.
So much easier than the original February 16, 2010 Merban (New York, NY) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We had the original Diaper Genie for years until the lid finally broke. I decided to replace it with the Genie II elite. Great decision! It is so much easier to be able to step on the pedal and toss the diaper in with one hand whereas before I had to struggle to open the lid and twist - it always took both hands which wasn't easy while dealing with my wriggling son. Plus the elite is much higher so you don't have to bend over to use it which is really nice. We haven't noticed any odor issues so all in all - i would highly recommend this product.
