Bosch 1600 solar tankless series November 1, 2008 A. Anderson (California) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This would be a much better offering if this were available on all of their larger tankless water heaters but it is not. This is a model designed for one major appliance at a time and not really a whole house. No building department would approve this beyond its design and the expense of installing solar with such a small tankless unit is not worth the added expense. When solar is applied I have measured the solar hot water and it takes quite a while for the Bosch to react and deliver a comfortable range of hot water and settle it's gas use where it is prone to shutting down the ignition and attempts to re-ignite if solar temperatures are higher than the pre-set temps or have not reached a steady temperature. The only solar that would work is the type that couples rooftop panel mounted storage and this requires load calculation for an additional 380lb+ of weight and an extra building permit. So only the most off the grid is going to consider this. I really don't like the controls, this should have digital readouts and more advanced controls which hail back to the older 125B series. Novel idea, close but no cigar....
