No after sales support. October 22, 2009 James Mansfield (usa) My construction company owns several of these units. The motherboard on one has fried and we have been unable to secure a replacement. We have sent multiple emails to the company with no response. Oh and the unit is less then 2 years old with not a lot of use.
A must have September 12, 2009 cast iron addict (Northeast) I have a basement wood shop, so removal of dust is important for health and house cleanliness (wife's orders). I have a complete wood chip removal system by Oneida, which is great, that is hooked up to all my tools. There is still dust, from hand tools, etc. This JDS was easy to install and when first turned on, it really moves the air. My wife even commented that the air was "crystal" clear. This is a must have for woodworkers
Works well, reasonable noise, high price (they all are) January 28, 2009 R. Hermann Edit: My unit arrived with a slightly damaged corner. Not enough to mess with returning it, but certainly a disappointment.
First an explanation of the "high price" comment. This is, for all intensive purposes, a metal box with a fan in it and filters on both ends. Anyone with the time and desire could probably make their own for marginally more than the cost of the motor/fan assembly ($100?) using plywood/mdf and filters purchased from Amazon or a local hardware/box store.
The variable speeds are nice. When standing next to the unit on high speed, the sound level is similar to standing next to our forced air furnace while it is running. On low, the volume is reduced, but is still noticeable because of the airflow noise. The motor/fan seems to be very quiet, almost all of the noise seems to come from the airflow at the back end of the unit. I had originally planned to apply some noise-damping material to the case, but I really don't think that would have an appreciable affect on the sound level.
I can't comment on th eactual filtering ability, but the air is certainly cleaner after running the unit, even for a half-hour.
Poor quality control or damage from shipping? January 26, 2009 J. Low (Grantham, NH United States) The internal fan was tilted and rubbed with ever rotation which made a terrible sound. This is not an easy part to get to, but after taking the motor out of the case, there are three mounting bolts which which could be adjusted and fixed the problem. Since then it is quite and works great for cleaning the air from my shop. It also was good with the dust from my house this weekend as we sanded drywall.
Good support if there is a problem! December 20, 2008 Craig Erickson (Rapid City, SD United States) When we first received this item, the motor wouldn't turn because the "cage" was dragging on the side of the blower housing. After disassembly, it was discovered that the cage is unsquare to the axle, and it wobbles about 3/8 - 1/2" from one side to another. I repositioned the cage on the shaft, and the unit runs good with some vibration. It is unknown whether this was a factory defect, or if it was damaged during shipping. I contacted JDS and they sent a new, balanced cage & an extra filter without any problems. Summary: You won't get stuck with a "lemon" with the JDS, so I'd recommend it for purchase.
