Product Description The Black & Decker 9078 Pivot-Driver is 3-position 3.6-volt pivoting screwdriver. Its handle locks in 3-positions for constricted locations and tight areas. The 24-position clutch prevents stripping of screws and the automatic spindle lock for manual use provides greater control when starting and finishing screws. The forward/reverse slide switch makes it easy to change from screw driving to screw removal.
Amazon.com Cordless screwdrivers are a wonderful invention, but some jobs around the house still require that extra control a conventional screwdriver can provide. The 3.6-volt, three-position Black & Decker 9078 screwdriver combines the best of both. As a power screwdriver, the unit operates at 180 rpm and offers up to 40 in./lbs. of torque, with 24 settings. A torque control collar allows the operator to match the torque to the job, reducing unwanted strips. A pistol grip and three-position handle allow the screwdriver to fit into some pretty tight spaces, while a spindle lock (located on the forward/reverse switch) allows the operator to use the unit as a conventional, manual screwdriver when necessary. This is especially helpful when starting and finishing screws. The screwdriver comes with five double-ended bits. Each locks securely into place and is easy to remove. The handle is also easy to adjust with just the push of a button. All in all it's a pretty handy little tool.--Carl Thress

Does the job. November 17, 2009 L. Ballard (Utah) I bought this for my wife's framing business. It has plenty of power for this application and the battery life is very good. If you want to run a 4" screw you may want to get a drill.
Durable November 15, 2009 J. J. meister (USA) I bought the thing as a spur of the moment purchase. I ended up loving this little thing. Ive done major remoldeling jobs (my kitchen, and bathroom using it. Ive even used it to hammer things with, as a quick tool. I ve had it for over two years, and it still is going strong, except I did break off the end battery cover piece. I give it 4 stars only because I do wish battery life was a bit longer.
With a product this bad why not just use a regular screw driver? October 20, 2009 A. Schreiber (Washington, DC United States) I am shocked that no one else has mentioned any gripes about the bit falling out all the time (why couldn't B&D have added a way to lock the bit into place?) and I never know if the battery has enough juice or if it is even charging since there is not indicator on the screwdriver. In addition it sucks that you can't use the screwdriver as a non-cordless device and draw AC power from the wall. It's really a terrible product.
Handiest tool in the box September 12, 2009 Linda L. Sutherland (California) I ordered this for my brother. My husband has one and says that with a garage full of tools, he uses this one most! My brother was struggling to remove a door so some furniture could be moved out of the house. Many screws had to be removed from hinges and screen door closer. It took a long time and his forearms were getting sore. Then he had to put them all back. Now he can do a job like that easily and quickly. My husband likes the way that it converts to a pistol grip when a hi-torque situation arises but can still fit into a small cabinet space when used as a straight screw driver. I'm sure my brother will find it both handy and useful as my husband does.
Poor design, torque and battery life August 11, 2009 R. Hagerty (Tampa Bay) Don't buy this power driver. The adjustable handle is good, the torque is poor and the battery life is very short. The battery died on this after only a few months. Wasn't worth replacing. Get the driver with the versa pak if you need a reliable unit. If you need power, go for soemthing large with a 14.4V or 18V battery.
