Torque, torque and more torque! This package is nothing but power. The 14.4-volt cordless impact driver and the MForce drill put super strength in your hands for the toughest tasks. Despite being beastly powerful, this impact driver is shockingly compact and lightweight, with a total length of under 7 inches and weighing in at a mere 3-1/2 pounds including the battery. But don't let that mislead you -- impacts per minute range from 0 to 3,200, with a maximum tightening torque of 1,240 in./lbs. And the power doesn't quit, either, because the nickel-metal-hydride battery packs a greater capacity and longer run time than standard nickel-cadmium versions. Even though it fits snugly in the hand, it's an absolute dynamo in the power department, and the variable speed is smooth as silk. There are two nifty light-related features on this Makita, and we weren't all that impressed with them on paper. This kit is just what I expected. I bought it for use at home and occasionally for woodworking and handyman jobs with friends. It has performed marvelously for the last few months, and I have come to really like the worklight. I use it for overnight camping and reading often. The charger is fast and I haven't had any trouble with the batteries. This set of tools is powerful enough that I'm not embarrassed when I show up to work on something. I'll certainly let you know if they go bad.

This drill/driver set is an excellent deal. I just bought a house and use them both often, and used the light for almost everything since we were working mostly at night after work. That is, until is started flickering a few days ago and finally just shut off completely last night. The drill and impact driver are well made and work excellently, but the light failed after only 8 days for no reason. Still, its a great deal even with the [now] useless light.

I've had this cordless kit since 2006 and it has been great to work with. I know realize that one of the battery is not taking any charge and is of very little use since it acts like a discharged battery and drains to a really low level instantly!!!!
I've been told by a teacher at school that you can test the battery, that's great but its most likely dead by now. I am not a contractor but have used the kit in a regular manner almost every other day. Batteries have worked fine until now and the charger seems to be working on the last good battery included in the set.
A battery replacement is around $70 for that model...A bit pricey if you ask me and I realize that a new kit with better batteries and lighter tools is now for sale online and in store for pretty much the same price I paid for the set 3 years ago...Something to consider whether you want new tools or just a new battery.
I will keep this kit for now but will probably buy something new in the next few weeks, most likely Makita or Milwaukee.
That's what everybody seems to be using these days!

The power tools are very good but this is a kit and I expect all items to be of equal quality and longevity. When the light switch failed I was in the dark and I could not finish the job.

If your looking for a great deal on a driver kit, this kit is it!! This kit has it all, I purchased this kit mainly for the impact driver, I looked elsewhere on the net and all were priced around the same, but only for the impact driver. So with this kit you get a impact driver, driver drill, and work light. And the best part is they work with my other 14.4 makita tools. If you have the older nimh battery tools, this kit will add to your versatility.
