Pretty nice table saw. October 1, 2008 Edward G. Clayton (Chicago) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
For the Amazon price with free shipping this is a bargain. Yesterday all of the order arrived and I started putting things together. This saw is very well packed in a plywood crate, and is very heavy. Keep in mind that this is a saw kit. After uncrating you will see that the base assembly consists of the saw base, motor, trunion, and table top. Everything else will need to be attached and aligned. While no problem for me, I could see where it could be a challenge for someone with less than average mechanical skills. Because I am very familiar with machine maintenance, it took me about 2 hours to get everything assembled. I still need to align the fence system, but I should be operational this evening. Follow up: While assembling the saw, I found that the blade was out of parallel with the miter slots by 3/32. (VERY DANGEROUS) The user manual did not cover adjustment, so I had to contact Delta. Since this was supposed to be adjusted at the factory, and was dangerous to operate as is, I requested someone to come out and set it to specifications. According to Delta, this saw must be brought in or shipped to a repair facility. My argument is that a brand new saw that is aligned at the factory, should arrive at my house, delivered, and aligned. It is not possible for me to load a #300 saw in the trunk of the Honda to take it in for repair. They would not budge on this. I had to purchase a 6X8" steel plate to align the tie rods, then It took approx 6 hours to get everything aligned, and if I need to do it again, I will disassemble the saw from the cabinet, because it is difficult, at best, to work on trunion and tie rod alignment though the motor access door. To sum it up, the 2 year warranty from Delta/Porter Cable is only valid if you take the saw to the repair facility.... Next gotcha: The cast iron wings are bowed. Even though they are ground surfaces, the cast iron wings are bowed high in the center. This makes a seemless alignment with the saw table top imposible. It was necessary to flatten the joint transition with a flat file and machine scraper so the fence would glide across the joint without snagging.
