| Customer Reviews: Simply Outstanding August 5, 2009 Joehorse (Gautier, MS) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
While reading the review by "penman1" I could identify with him one hundred percent. I, too, turn pens (mine is as a hobby tho) and had trouble with my older drill press drilling the blanks straight and on one pass. Today I bought the Ridgid DP1550 and set it up rather quickly and much to my surprise, all was Plumb, Square and Level.???!!! I had given up drilling with the older press due to the inability to properly align the unit but with this Ridgid I was able to drill blanks for 25 pens (Christmas presents) in about 30 minutes....and with exact precision. (That's more than 50 blanks) To say the least, I AM COMPLETELY SATISFIED with the Ridgid. I have some other Ridgid Tools and they are of higher quality also. I certainly recommend this drill press for those who want a great tool with precision capability. Also, THANKS, "penman1", you sold me.
Nice product. Expected junk, but this is a quality drill press June 19, 2009 Andrew Little (Atlanta, GA) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
On a Sunday afternoon, right in the middle of completing the biggest pen order I ever had (over 100 high-end pens) my old trusty Delta drill press finally decided to die a well-deserved death. Now, with a big deadline rapidly approaching, I had to immediately procure a drill press with at least a 3 inch travel. In my community, the only options on a Sunday were Home Depot and Lowes. I bought this press fully intending to replace it with a new Delta at the first available opportunity.
I got the Ridgid press home and it assembled in minutes and it "squared up" perfectly right out of the box. The press worked better than the high-end Delta that I had used at a product demo.
It drilled a 9/16th inch hole in a 3/4 X 3/4 X 3 3/4 inch pen blank on its first try with NO bit "run out". This was a task that I had NEVER been able to accomplish with the old Delta or the New Delta I had planned to buy.
I continue to be impressed with the quality and accuracy of this inexpensive drill press. It has a home in my shop forever.
