I love this tool! November 1, 2009 Chuck (Texas) Pros:
Great price
Light weight
Looks brand new
Works great
Cons:
Had to replace drain cock
Safety bumper came off gun after only a few uses
This is a great tool for a great price. I really could not tell that it was reconditioned. The only problem I had was the the drain cock on the bottom of the compressor did not work. So while looking at the new ones in the store, I noticed they had a ball valve instead of a twist-style valve. I ordered a Replacement ball value and now it works great. As it turns out, the old drain cock was not drilled through, so there was no way air was ever going to escape.
I have used this gun for putting up crown molding and small projects in the workshop. I have also used the air compressor to air up the tires on my vehicles, although the supplied attachment does not work the best.
Another thing I like about this compressor is the weight. It is easy for me tote around. I borrowed a friend's compressor before I bought this one and I had to use 2 hands to lug it around. This one I just grab and go.
recommended........... October 5, 2009 Win Htut (South San Francisco, CA) I have received the product. It said refurbished. But I found every thing like new. And the compressor starts working as soon as I plug in. A little noisy compared to my other 2 cylinder compressor. But it is light weight and easy to carry around. I haven't used the nail gun yet. Recommended .... Good Buy for me.
Good compressor and nailer, GREAT VALUE! September 20, 2009 evan in maine (maine) Hi all,
I purchased this combo for the purposes that most homeowners will be using it for: inflating tires and pool toys, running a couple different nailers, blasting dust, maybe a small spray gun, etc. For these purposes and occasional use, it does really well. For regular use or high output tools, I'd suggest an oiled unit with larger capacity.
Anyway, lets start with the good:
The value cannot be beat. It came with everything mentioned and was delivered to my door for under $150. The nail gun seems to be of good quality, although it leaves the brad just barely above the surface of the wood. I like the included case. I think there's a depth adjustment, but I haven't played with it too much. It offers good power for general needs. The compressor is easy to move and doesn't cycle through too often when using the nailer or air gun. It is not deafening, but not exceptionally quiet. The accesory kit comes with everything you need to get started with the exception of the damaged hose.
The bad:
The freight company was incompetent, and I had to return several phone calls because they couldn't find my house. Expect delivery to take 14 days. The packaging was poor, and I think the couple blemishes were a product of this rather than the unit being refurbished. The air hose arrived cracked in half. I didn't return it because I was planning on buying a better hose anyway, but it sounds like they'd make you ship everything back if this happens, which is not acceptable. Just plan on spending an extra $25 on a good hose and save yourself the hassle of a cheap coil hose. I wish the regulator was not plastic because I feel that this will wear out quickly. The compressor is slightly larger than the porter cable equivalent. These were all minor gripes of mine.
For the money, as long as the unit doesn't burn out on me somewhere down the road, I am very satisfied.
Nice purchase August 30, 2009 PA Wine Buff (PA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Delivered was timely and the packing was better than expected. Everything looked new, could not tell it was reconditioned. Have only used the nailer a few times and it worked okay, left brads and staples just ever so slightly above work piece, so no 5 stars. I have used the compressor multiple times and it works great. Not as noisey as some reviewed, but all oil-less are loud anyway. I used it in the house during a remodeling job and my wife did not complain and she is sensitive to noise.
I am going to try to see if this pancake compressor can drive a PH-1 HVLP spray gun for trim work. Overall I am happy with the value and function of this equipment. I would not have paid the price for a new combo pack, and would have continued shopping if I had not found this bargain.
Update 9/30/09 - in answer to a question, I have not used this to drive my spray gun yet. I did purchase a Porter Cable framing nailer and the compressor worked great. I could nail a load of nails before the compressor came on.
