| Customer Reviews: Highly suggest you buy a better quality lathe. December 21, 2008 B. Cadotte (MA, United States) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This lathe and the others of the same design are not very good at all. The lowest speed is way to fast. It is unsafe to use with pieces of rough wood even 1/2 the size of its maximum diameter. I am unfortunate in having bought a similar one. The saying goes you get what you pay for. In this case that is true. 1/2hp is also way too low for a lathe with this capacity. I am guessing the low speed is so high to keep it from stalling at low speeds. It still stalls at high speed if one is not very carefull (that is if you can get the piece rounded and balanced before it flies off at you). The one I have is now broken becasue I tried to do a large piece and it just could not handle it. There is a reason they use cast iron on the better lathes. The sheetmetal used in these designes just can't handle the stress.
