Amazon.com Review Add decorative profiles to the edges and centers of your next woodworking project with this plunge router from Black and Decker. Designed for versatility, this powerful cutting tool lets you start in the middle of stock rather than just at the edges, plunging down into the wood to create panels, decorative cutouts, inlays, and more.At the same time, this unit does everything that a fixed-base router does, shaping decorative edges licitly split, mortising door edges for hinge installation. And, it's easy to use. Thanks to the excellent control and precision this 2-1/4-inch router offers, you'll quickly execute precise free-hand cutouts, template cuts, and inlays. Great for a wide variety of routing tasks, a beefy 2-horsepower, 10 amp motor spins the bit at variable speeds from 8,000 to 27,000 rpm. An electronic variable speed dial maintains a constant cutting speed through hardwoods and soft wood alike. A rack-and-pinion height adjustment lets you set the depth of cut to within a 1/16-inch. Three easy-to-set turret stops reduce set-up time for repetitive cuts at the same depth. One common problem with routing is not being able to see the work. The tool itself gets in the way as you cut, blocking your vision so you can't really tell how the cut is progressing. Black & Decker solved this problem with a special design that offers four times the visibility of traditional routers for better control, more accurate cuts and cleaner edges. A large plastic window, contoured to the router base, protects against wood chips and other debris. A dust extraction chute also clears the work surface when attached to a shop vacuum. Best of all, a push-button spindle lock makes changing bits a snap. A soft start feature gradually brings the router to the selected speed, so you can ease into the cut with optimal control--a great way to avoid costly mistakes. And, an enlarged base makes it easier to keep the router flat and level to the work surface. --Brian D. Olson What's in the Box Router, 1/4-inch collet, collet wrench, user's guide.
Amazon.com Product Description The Black & Decker RP250 10 Amp 2-1/4-Inch Variable Speed Plunge Router gives you all of the functionality of a fixed router--and much more. Not only can it create decorative edging like a fixed router, but its unique construction allows you to start work in the middle of a piece of wood, rather than at the edge, which lets you create cut-outs, inlays, and more for stunning results. With its powerful 10 Amp, variable speed motor (8000 to 27,000 RPM), this plunge router gives you superior power for maximum performance, and its gradual start function gives you optimum control over the tool for precise results and safety. The tool is also built for convenience, with a specially designed SIGHTLINE base that allows for improved visibility, an easy-to-use depth scale to ensure better accuracy, and a spindle lock for straightforward, simple bit changes. And with its trigger switch with lock-on button and its contoured chip shield, you'll be both more comfortable and safer while you perform your work. The router comes with a 1/4-inch collet and wrench and an adjustable parallel edge guide. It's backed by a 2-year warranty.

Junk July 3, 2009 Barry P. Brown (West Palm Beach, FL) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The Black & Decker Plunge Router is a piece of junk. The first time I attempted to use it, the plunge slide bars disengaged from the base. Small retaining washers fell off the plunge stop. I attempted to repair these things to no avail. I returned the router to a local DeWlat B&D repair facility who sent it back to the factory. The repair shop told me I would receive a new router in about 10 days. I waited..no router. I called DeWalt B&D and they told me they stopped making this router and I would receive a refund. I got the refund which was less than what I paid for the router originally. That's the LAST B&D tool I'll ever buy.

This product works great and I am very happy with it although I wish I would have known I can't use it on a router table because now I have a router table I can't use
Great router for hobbyist February 20, 2009 R. Williams (New Smyrna Beach, FL) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I needed a plunge router to make some keyhole slots and this unit fit the bill. After some practice with it (I had never used a plunge router) I found it is well designed and cuts beautifully. Didn't have any problems setting it up, I am completely satisfied with it.
Great tool for beginner woodworker January 17, 2009 Michael Ary (Portland, OR) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
First off, this is not a professional woodworkers tool. But, it is a good router for the handyman who needs a basic routing tool to start up his shop. So, I give it only 3 stars. This router is a good tool to start with because it is economical; it has a fairly strong motor with variable speed (for different applications); B&D bits are inexpensive; and it has a plunge feature for accuracy and versatility. For the price, it's a bargain.
Easy to Use December 13, 2008 Randall Cope (IL, USA) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I haven't used a router since high school and this was easy to use. Attaching a vacuum to it would definately help with dust and cleanup. Otherwise you'll end up taking off the plastic piece that will end up holding some of the dust. I found it very easy to use. The hardest pat was reading the instructions and flipping back and forth between the diagrams and typed instructions.
