Amazon.com Product Description The Kidde 25-foot escape ladder provides a way to escape fires or other emergencies and offers your family an essential piece of safety equipment if you live in a two- or three-story home. The National Fire Protection Association recommends one ladder in every occupied room on floors above the main level. This durable ladder stores conveniently under the bed or near a window and deploys quickly and easily. It will support a maximum weight of 1,000 pounds when the load is distributed on more than one rung, while the maximum weight for each rung is 750 pounds. The metal rung steps prevent slippage to ensure a safe climb down, and its tangle-free design makes for easy packing and repacking. No assembly or tools are required, and it is backed by a 5-year warranty.

Good escape ladder October 21, 2009 David Flosser This is an effective escape ladder, but it is a bit bulkier than I would like.
poor hook design October 3, 2009 David Gray (BC) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I purchased one of these.
The attachment hook is a very poor design it may not work on your window. My window is a standard vertical slider in a 2 x 4 wall with vinyl siding and 3/8" thick interior trim board.
The ladder part looks great, but when testing the hooks over the window I was appalled to discover that all the weight of the person on the ladder would be pulling up on the tiny part of the hook that happens to hook on the interior window trim.
I pushed down on the ladder on the outside and the hood quickly popped off!
No way would I climb down one of these! I will be returning it!
I will be sending an email to the manufacturer
Not always the right choice August 8, 2009 C. Kay (Long Beach, CA USA) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
This ladder, while light weight, might leave some users queasy, particularly if their second story window is not part of a sheer wall. Without support against the lower rungs, it's an e-ticket ride.
Can't practice with this ladder July 16, 2009 AustinScott (Houston, TX USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I purchased this ladder after moving into a 3 story townhouse. I had planned on having the family practice using the ladder and then I noticed the "small print" conveniently left out of the item description. THIS IS A ONE-USE LADDER!! What a waste of money. I would rather spend a little more and get a ladder which I can practice with in a non-fire situation.
A very important item that I hope to never have to use June 17, 2009 J. Eisenberg (new jersey) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Be advised: You can't open this item all the way up, it is meant for one time use in an emergency. I'm okay with it being a one time use, just knowing it's there makes me feel safer. It seems like it will be easy to open and use. The product appears well made and sturdy. (Again, I didn't release the ladder).
