good images , lacks theory September 28, 2009 Glen A. Neal Very well done publication. The drawings are very thorough. It severely lacks any theory or formulas on the topics contained in the book.
If all you need are pictures then this is the book for you. If you want more practical information then do not buy this book.
Doesn't live up! July 27, 2009 R. Norris (North Carolina) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
For a book called Frame Construction, Mr. Thallon spent a lot of pages on NON-framing issues, foundations and roofing, and forgot to put anything in about the math of framing. Just take a look at the section on framing stairs, nothing there but some basic diagrams.
Sorry but for every good drawing the should be an equally clever formula for the calculations of the art of framing. I am not all that fired up about this one.
Excellent guide for the amateur builder March 19, 2009 billh2222 (San Diego, CA USA) Over the years, I've referred back to this book many times.
I recommend it for anyone thinking about building a deck or an addition.
It has the answers that you are looking for.
Book in good shape, and delivered as expected. Happy. December 4, 2008 SouthbayFrank (SF Bay area, CA) 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
Received the book in good shape as stated. The delivery time was also as expected. Happy and will buy again.
Highly Recommended. November 21, 2008 Curious Cat 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I struck gold on this one. Just an absolutely fantastic, practical introduction to framing. Mr. Thallon does a great job on the material, and the illustrations are well-done. While my purchase was done more out of pure curiosity than a pending project, I did pass it on to a friend who was building an addition to his house. He was impressed, and used the book extensively during his build with great success resulting in a solidly built addition that he can have confidence in.
