Perfect! July 16, 2009 Tracy McCallon (Oxnard, CA. USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This worked great for me! Easy to use, much better than pushing furniture around. I ordered (2), as there are a limited amount of furniture items per pack. If you don't require high tech software, this is for you!
helpful product June 5, 2009 S. Defrancesco (MA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I like the idea of this product. It's so easy to "mis-estimate" the size of a room and the things it can fit. This product keeps you honest, and definitely saved me time. I did find the "decals" sometimes difficult to peel back off the laminated grid that comes with it. After a few peels of the actual grid, I decided to put the grid under a glass frame and stick the decals to that. They were a bit easier to grab, and saved the grid. Our project was small, and it was still a help.
Somewhat Disappointing May 23, 2009 student Although the concept was a good one -- the ability to plan and rearrange rooms using "sticky" cutouts -- I had several issues with the product, some of which have also been addressed in other reviews. Although I used tweezers to position the cutouts (since it's difficult to do so accurately using your fingers), when I removed some of the cutouts from the coated grid paper, several of the edges and corners stuck, tearing the grid paper and leaving shreds on the cutouts themselves (in spite of the fact that I tried to be very careful to remove them slowly and not rip them off). My next issue was that many of the cutouts did not conform to standard furniture sizes. For example, a standard king bed is 76" x 80," but the cutout was labeled "82" x 80." (In fact, there was a discrepancy for all the bed sizes, as well as for many of the other furniture cutouts.) There also seemed to be a shortage of dining/breakfast table sizes, and it was difficult to alter these, since in many cases the dining chairs were pre-positioned around the tables. If you tried to cut them out and use them individually, or trim off the excess from a table that was too large, it was difficult to remove the cutout from the backing. I was also disappointed in the overall scarcity of furniture cutouts. Of the four pages of cutouts, only one of the pages was fully devoted to furniture. The other three pages were primarily used for permanent fixtures in kitchens and bathrooms (such as sinks, tubs, and toilets), and structural features (such as windows and doors). Overall, the product was somewhat disappointing.
Review from a teacher October 28, 2008 David M. Katz (Amherst, MA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
My students at Mount Holyoke College's SummerMath program have had great success using the Home Quick Planner. These are high school students and they use the planner to design their own dream homes, as part of the Architecture and Mathematics Workshop. The planner's wonderful array of symbols expands their design options, as they see many new possibilities. Using the variety of symbols provided, the students are able to find the sizes and shapes they want, and when a particular symbol is not available, they typically improvise, sometimes combining two other symbols to meet their needs. The planner's attention to detail is impressive, for example, there are over 400 feet of walls, half-walls, and symbols for marking removal of walls for a remodeling project. The planner provides a wealth of learning experience.
Good tool, but needs more furniture September 5, 2008 G. Palmer (Bucks County, PA USA) I've used the planner to layout several rooms, and the pieces are still sticky after repeated use. It's a very user friendly product. My only issue is that there are many more kitchen and bath cabinets and appliances, etc. than furniture, and I purchased this to plan furniture layouts, not to layout bathrooms or kitchens.
