Amazon.com Product Description Incredibly easy to use, this electronic water timer from Gilmour offers four on/off watering cycles per day so your yard looks its best, even during hot summer months. The electronic keypad is a snap to set thanks to the easy-to-read digital display that indicates program steps and selections. The one-week clock repeats the cycle every seven days, or you can choose the skip function for watering every second or third day. There's also a convenient countdown timer running through the duration of each water cycle and the option of manual or timed on/off, so you always control the watering amount and duration. To help make programming even easier, the electronics are removable (just squeeze the side grips and pull), and the swivel nut allows for a quick connection to the faucet. Change your mind about the program you chose? Select the program override function to temporarily suspend watering. For added convenience, this Gilmour timer runs on four AA batteries (not included) and includes a low battery indicator when power is running low.

I don't like this timer..... I LOVE it! February 16, 2010 Bill Zombie Honestly, I've only been using this timer for six months but the only thing "wrong" with it is that the clocked has gained about 6 minutes. Big deal - I have watches that keep worse time! Sometimes I forget and when it kicks on I wonder, "who turned the water on??" but, NO, there are no plumbing jarring clangs when it turns on, like others have described. The ON/OFF operation is smooth and silent. Easy to program. Solid construction. I know there are other timers available but I'll never know if they're as good (I doubt that they are) as the Gilmour 9400 because the next timer I buy is going to be another Gilmour 9400! Try it, you'll like it.
2nd unit was terrible February 14, 2010 M. Gordon (Gainesville, FL) The first Gilmour I had (same model, 9400) lasted about 3 1/2 years. Based upon that, I ordered this model again... big mistake! The center seal (behind the red button) went bad within months. This was the same problem that compelled me to replace the first unit... 3 1/2 years on the first unit, 3 months on the second. I will NOT be buying Gilmour again!
Cost-effective, user-friendly product October 12, 2009 R. Wood (Central California) This is an updated version of a Gilmour timer I had for several years. It is easier to program than the previous model and does a very good job!
Less than 1/8" thick Chinese Plastic Valves August 19, 2009 J. Martin (Los Angeles, CA) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
The electronics/motor seems okay, but the timer's valves have less than 1/8" thick chinese plastic for the upstream ball valve's chamber. The top of the valve's screw top is held on one side by 1 "chinese plastic" thread. A slight pressure spike on the line (when closed) and this timer pretty much explodes, blowing the electronic top part of the valve into the air! Almost as fun as an M80! Maybe I could duct tape my growing collection of 9400 value electronics tops to some real (brass) valves??
Great timers but they lasted only for 2 years August 1, 2009 Big Al (Southwest, USA) The Gilmour water timer consists of an electronic/motor unit and a valve. The electronic/motor unit is detachable from the valve for the purpose of programming, which is done via the 4 membrane keys on the front panel. Four programs are available. A watering program includes the start time, the end time, and the frequency of operation during the week. Up to 4 on-off operations are available per day by employing all four programs. The whole timer assembly can be easily installed between the hose bib and the water hose without tools.
I bought two of these Gilmour timers on July 2007. They were the best water timers I ever owned. They were super-easy to install and moderately easy to program, but, alas, they lasted only for 2 years. The electronics worked just fine, but the motors lost the torque to turn the valves. One of the timers was used only occasionally, while the other turned on and off daily. One would think that the one used lightly should last longer, but both timers broke down around the same time, in the same manner. I don't have any explanation for that. Nevertheless, I am ordering a replacement for the daily timer, because this Gilmour timer is still the best hose-end electronic water timer on the market.
