BATS AWAY! November 20, 2009 moonstar (Roseville, CA) We moved into a brand new house and noticed that all around the corners there was poo. The poo looked like rat or mouse droppings, but it was only on the corners, so we weren't sure what kind of rodent it was. We also noticed that there were stains on the very top corners of the ceiling and walls. We weren't sure if it was from the new paint on our house or what. Being city folks and moving the the country, it never occured to us that we'd have bats, until the first night spent at the house, my husband noticed something flying outside the front door, low and behold a bat hanging upside down on the corner of the ceiling outside our front entrance. GROSS!
I searched Amazon to check out which ones had the best ratings and it seemed that some worked for people and some didn't. We happened to be in a hardware store and noticed the 'Bird-X TX-PRO Transonic Pro Electronic Pest Repeller'. We bought it cause I was sick of having bats pooing around our new house...that and Halloween was coming, as much as it would have been an added decor in our front entry...I don't think that the kids would have appreciated real flying bats.
The first few days, it didn't seem like it was working, BUT as I read the instructions, it said that sometimes it may take up to two weeks before it annoys the bats enough to leave. It took almost a week, but the bats finally left the front entrance, only to start hanging out in the back of the house.
The box said that it covered up to 5000 sq. ft. BUT read instructions and it will say that it works 5000 sq. ft. but not through walls. SO after spending over $30.00 for the one in the front entry, I wasn't prepared to spend that amount again for a small area in
the back of the house, so I bought the 'P3 International Wave Attack' since it had semi good reviews. I know that it's listed as an indoor repeller, but I didn't see the harm in putting it outside. This item totally worked for us. No more bats at all.
All these repellers have a clicking noise, which you won't really hear or notice when you're inside. But it didn't bother us since we were using it for the exterior. We didn't want that clicking sound on all the time throughout the day and since the bats only appeared at night we put timers on both of them so that they'd only go on late in the evening. I figure if it's on constantly, the bats might get use to it and reappear. It's been almost a month and I'd say that both products have been working out for us. I gave both a 4 star rating because we haven't had it long enough, otherwise it'd be a 5 star rating.
Does it really do anything besides annoy? October 21, 2009 Travis Melvin (Lansing, MI USA)
I got this device as I have a bat problem, and I was hoping for a non poison method of getting rid of the little creepy rats on wings. I don't really mean them any harm, I don't want them dead, I just want them to realize that I don't want to share a home with them.
While the device did warn that it was more intended for outdoor use, I was going to try it in my attic and see how annoying it was. A working product may be worth a mild noise I may or may not notice. When I first hooked it up, the device was quiet enough that I didn't notice it all all through out my house on the BAT setting. Great!
About 4 days after I had the device installed, I noticed that I could hear it when on the second floor of my house. I figured I must not have had the switch firmly into the bat setting and it must have gone up a notch. When I got up to pick up the device, I heard a bat a few feet behind me... taking a gander at me in their ultrasonic way. It didn't seem to care about the device, nearly as much as I cared about being that close to it.
It still goes up and down in volume depending on the day. Some days its loud, some days it isn't noticed even in the dead of night. Why the variance? Either it is reacting to the bats being nearby (which means they still don't care much about it as its been many weeks) or the device was just not well made.
seems to be working September 13, 2009 Michelle Coggins (mi, usa) so far this item seems to be working, combined with rat poison, and aromatic deterrents.
Keeps mice out of RV & a effective bug chaser too August 24, 2009 Kenneth A. Edelstein (New York, NY USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was plagued with mice in my RV which is parked for weeks at a time in a field in upstate NY. I tried the TX-Pro by cutting off the AC adapter and fitting on a cigarette lighter plug (careful to observe polarity). The device works on 12V DC and the adapter just converts AC to 12V DC. It worked perfectly. My RV has a solar panel for the "coach" batteries, and I wired one of the 12V sockets to be constant on when the "house" main electric was off. The solar panel has way more capacity then the device draws (about 1/10 of an amp on LOUD) - so there is no concern about running down the batteries. I leave all the drawers and cabinets open so the sound can penetrate everywhere - result >>>> NO MICE! This should be sold with a 12V plug and marketed to RV owners! Yes on LOUD it makes a terrible racket, but there is no one around in the parking lot to care. I did inform the office of the storage lot about the device so they would know it is intentional and not a vehicle problem. On the LOUD - MICE setting it is a "start it and dash out" when I leave my RV. The sound is amazingly loud for such a low current consumption. Mine has been running for over 6 months - and shows no signs of wear or lowering of volume. I plan to start using it on the "quiet" settings at the campgrounds to repel mosquitoes and those annoying gnats too. I am planning to get a second one for the engine compartment to protect the wiring from critters that chew and destroy the wires - but that will require another solar panel, probably a small one mounted on the inside of the windshield and plugged into the cigarette lighter.
Junk August 12, 2009 D. Sluder I pluged the unit in as directed only to discover the next day it didn't work! I tried several things to rectify the problem but to no avail. I took it apart and added an external speaker and it is working fine. I believe the speakers were faulty!
