Terrific Novel Little Garden- Makes a Great Gift Too! November 5, 2009 B. Bigman (USA) Over a year ago, I had purchased an Aero Garden for my wife as a present.
Originally we grew herbs, then switched to flowers.
The Aero Garden Pro 100 was the model.
Very well built, solid attractive materials, friendly clear instructions, and it really does work.
One can be an inside gardener with great success! It works surprisingly well.
These kits make a fabulous gift for someone who just doesn't have time or room to go out and toil in the soil for their organic needs. The herbs taste really good and after all, "they are home-grown"!
Flowers are beautiful too and last for months and months!
Wish I had thought of it!AeroGrow AeroGarden with Gourmet Herb Seed Kit, Black
It works November 2, 2009 S. Putscher I started the Aero Garden about 4 weeks ago. It is working as described. Looking at the actual size of the pods, I am wondering of how plentiful my "harvest" will be. Guess time will tell, and perhaps when it is time to order replacement pods, I will do a custom assortment with duplicate herbs - this way I will have hopefully enough herbs to cover the needs for a kitchen of two.
Everything grows November 1, 2009 swoem2 No mess, No fuss. Herbs grew great with no effort. Quiet and trouble free.
Mixed Results Because of Nutrients - Issue Being Addressed (3 Stars) Great Customer Service (5 Stars) October 20, 2009 Sister Carrie (Midwest) I have 2 Aerogarden 7 pod Classic systems (the Classic 7 pod, 2 season herb w/ dressing mixer & a 7 pod Classic). I'm on my 2nd round of herbs & 1st round of beans. My results have been mixed on both units, and I learned the following from talking to Customer Service:
1) use distilled water
2) make sure the nutrient tablets aren't mushy
3) store nutrient tablets in the freezer
4) Aerogarden should be switched over to liquid nutrients by November 2009
I've had mixed results in growing my herbs & beans. Basil grows like gangbusters, as does the mint & chives, but the rest have been slow to grow or don't grow well at all. I've called Customer Service multiple times, and each time the representative has been wonderful and helpful. They are also quick to replace non-growing seed pods, just as their warranty states. However, even with switching out the grow bulbs after 6 months, I'm still frustrated with my results and hope that the liquid nutrients will be the turning point for my future gardens.
Since Customer Service is convinced that Aerogarden users will see much better results with liquid nutrients, I will update with results once the liquid nutrients are shipped with the seed pods.
very low electric consumption October 19, 2009 C. W. Cunningham I received mine 5 days ago and already most of my herb garden has started to sprout. The one concern I had before buying was how much electricity it would use. I had seen one reviewer claim that it was a silly purchase because you'd be wasting a ton of money on electricity, and another reviewer who had found documentation that the unit used less electricity than a 60 watt light bulb. Anyway, I have a watt meter, so I hooked it up, and it is only using 45 watts (with both the lights and the pump on). So I am very happy in that regard.
There are two other issues which I've seen a lot of complaints about in other reviews. First is how bright it is, and yes it is very bright, trust me, you will not be sleeping in the same room with this unit (at least not until you go blind). And the other common complaint is the noise of the pump. My unit was hardly audible the first few days, then it started making a bit of humming. So far the humming is hardly noticeable unless you're hunched over it trying to see if your seeds are sprouting (which I do a LOT;). The noise is so low, that I haven't even bothered to look to see if something is loose or if there is a noticeable reason that it starting making the noise.
So far I am very happy (5 stars worth) but I should probably withhold judgment until I'm eating the fruits (herbs) of my labor, actually there is incredibly little labor involved, so as long as I get a harvest I'm going to be buying another couple units (one for tomatoes and one for hot peppers, unfortunately you can't mix and match since they have different growing cycles and light and nutrient needs, but with as much as I'm enjoying one unit just imagine how much fun three units will be;)
