dependable but LOUD! WHAT? I SAID IT'S VERY LOUD!!! October 21, 2009 Phil Loubere (san jose, ca usa) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Haven't had it long enough to rate its long term reliability, but for now it seems solid and leak-proof. Also pretty light and easy to carry, and has two hose connections. But it is VERY loud and vibrates a lot. I had it on an unfinished hardwood floor and it left feet marks on the wood, fortunately not a big deal since floor will be sanded anyway.
First unit failed at arrival October 11, 2009 Krystal Rhoades (SF Bay Area, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The first unit arrived and had instructions to run the unit for 15 minutes with the bleed valve open, which I did with no problem. After that the valve is closed and the unit came up to full pressure (150psi) fairly quickly and shut off. Unfortunately when the unit got down to 120 psi it is suppose to turn back on and it never did. I let all the air out and nothing. I let it sit overnight in case it was overheated and still nothing, so back it went.
The new unit arrived after waiting another 10 days and I hesitantly went through the same procedure, this time with the correct operation. Delivery on each unit is slow due to the size.
The new unit is working okay, so far, but there is only about 5 hours of operation on it at this point using it to run a brad nailer at 100psi. Unit is light enough to be portable, looks nice and seems to recover pretty quickly. It appears pretty well made and the included hose with quick connects and other accessories make it easy to get started fast. The unit is noisy though.
Overall it's not bad, but there are probably better quality pieces out there.
Happy with product and price September 14, 2009 James A. Mclean (Kenney, Il USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Set unit up very quickly, everything was as advertised. Broke unit in as specified, and then charged unit to full pressure with hose attached. Three weeks later unit has not lost and air pressure. Happy with purchase.
Good compressor, Bad Accessories September 14, 2009 Ryan Crowder (Las Vegas) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Great compressor. I couldn't be happier with it. The hose and accessories are a little low end but I pretty much expected that. Would definitely recommend.
Great for home use September 5, 2009 gpserg (Winfield, IL United States) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I can't speak to professionals but for myself, a homeowner with less demanding needs, this compressor is well suited. I needed something to top-off auto/bicycle tires and handle occasional trim nailing. Dusting off the work bench and other hard to clean items came to mind too (PC cases, keyboards, car interior, wood blinds, filters, etc.). Works great for all, although you're better off purchasing a higher quality hose and accessories. I bought the Hitachi 1/4" 100' hose so I can get most anywhere in the house from the garage (although it's small and light enough to move it around if you're sticking with the included 25' hose).
As far as noise, it's not that bad at all. Louder than a vacuum, but quieter than a lawn mower. It's a low droning noise, unlike the high-pitched whine I got from my portable tire inflator (which was much louder than this compressor). Takes a bit under 3 minutes to fill completely from empty, then under a minute to refill once it drops below 120psi.
Never owning a compressor before I didn't realize you need to empty it after each use. No big deal - I just use the remaining air to dust the car dash - it's great for cleaning out all those cracks and crevices (just don't blast any speaker cones).
Note I was planning on getting the DeWalt D55140 since it's smaller, lighter and very quiet. I know someone who has one so I was able to try it. Seems slightly better built too. If you just plan on doing trim nailing and tire filling I recommend it over this one. However for dusting the 1 gal capacity is limiting - you get about 30sec of 40psi air - the compressor kicks in but just can't keep up (you just have to stop and wait for it to refill). With the Porter-Cable I can get continuous 40-50psi with the compressor running. If this is not a need, the DeWalt may be a better choice.
