Embarassing, But Necessary October 30, 2009 Super Dave (Ada, Oklahoma) Some products fit into the category "embarassing, but necessary" and this one qualifies. After purchase, ro prevent further embarassment, I would suggest the axiom, "only dear friends are allowed in my garage."
This product is very helpful in knowing just how far you need to get your vehicle into the garage without shutting the garage door on your trunk or tailgate. It is also useful in preventing "wreckless driver drywall damage syndrome." If you are tired of destroying your garage with your vehicle, you might want to consider this embarassing, but necessary solution.
Overall, I would rate the construction of this product as cheap. I was mortified that something so simple would actually require a screwdriver, but in the end, it was unecessary. The base is made of 2 interlocking plastic pieces, and if you plan on picking the base up a lot, and dont want the hassle of having of sliding the two interlocking pieces together again, they handily provided two little screws. If that doesn't bother you, please, throw the screws away. You can scoot the interlocking base easily without the interlocking basing coming apart. Imagine that.
Next, you will notice the extremely flexible fishing pole that they use as an elevator. Technically, the main working piece of the gizmo.
Finally, the cherry on this sunday of parking goodness, is the lighted, reflector STOP sign. The lights function when the built in motion sensor goes off detecting motion, or a tilt. This is where some embarassment will follow you around. It basically makes the whole thing look like you stole it from your kids Hot Wheels playset.
How does it work? Well, beautifully, really. Just a gentle tap from your front bumper will send the whole contraption whirling around in more bizaare ways than Jackie Chan pulled off in "the Drunken Master." If that doesn't get your attention, you might notice the blinking lights on the stop sign. These are also usefull if you are one of those types who speeds into the garage at night, with the garage door opener light burned out, and the headlights off. Otherwise, it is overkill.
Immediately afterwards, you will most likely need to put it in reverse and back up a notch, since any slight tilt creates a constant slight tension and makes the pole constantly flex just slightly and it will have the flashing lights going off all night long. Whew. Just trust me on this tidbit.
I have some old 2x4's in my garage, and some old fishing poles too, but I don't have any flashing STOP signs, or I would make one of these myself. Still, you can't fault it too much for being ridiculously simple, but I will take off a star.
It is a practical thing to have around, and it has saved me millions of dollars in drywall repair already, so overall, I am quite pleased. Necessary, but yet, embarassing.
Recommended.
Best parking aid! October 28, 2009 Wilma Flintstone (Chippewa Falls, Wi United States) I had a old HUGE suburban & a limited (obviously) space to park.
Park n place was the fun answer. Now I am "banished" to the small side of the
garage as I have a much smaller car. I still love my Park n place!
WORKS GREAT!!
Simple works best September 22, 2009 E. Doi (Los Angeles, CA USA) The Park N Place is simple and inexpensive - and that works best. The stop sign has very good color and contrast. Even when the battery runs out, I will be able to clearly see when I tap it, as the stop sign at the top of the pole clearly moves back several inches. I have not had the problem stated in some reviews of the Park N Place sliding around - it stays in place. I guess if you hit it very hard or overrun by more than a foot, it would tip over or be forced back, but you shouldn't be driving that fast in your garage!
We recently got a minivan, which because of its length and our garage shelving has less than 1 foot of clearance from the front and rear bumpers. The Park N Place allows us to park accurately to within a few inches.
I bought this item to replace a high-tech park assist laser. The laser was mounted to the ceiling and projected onto the dashboard when it sensed the vibrations of the opener, but I had all sorts of problems with its sensitivity, battery leads fraying, and short battery life. The Park N Place is a much simpler and effective solution.
Great little gadget August 18, 2009 B.A. (USA) I have very little space between the front of my garage and the door, so this product is a must have for saving me time (and making sure the garage door doesn't come crashing down on my new car). It works really well, and my toddler loves it when the STOP light turns on. My only suggestion for the next version is a heavier base. I use a brick to ensure that the car doesn't push it forward.
stop sign August 2, 2009 K. A. Smith This is a great product. My dad was always running into items in his garage. Now he uses the stop sign and this should prevent him from driving through the house. It is great for everyone, especially those with confined or crowded areas to park.
