| Editorial Reviews:
Product Description This is a working Stirling cycle vertical engine. The completed model is 4 3/4" long, 4 3/4" wide, and 11 1/2" tall. The base is 7 1/8" square. This kit includes the wooden base. These assembly kits are not strictly bolt-together kits. Some parts press together (an arbor press is the correct tool, but with care you can use a vise).

| Customer Reviews: Excited and then disappointed September 29, 2005 Michael S. Rowley 19 out of 19 found this review helpful
I was very excited to see a kit such as this become available. I don't have access to any machine shop tooling so the assembly kit seemed like the thing to get. The kit arrive well packaged and protected, for the most part the components were nicely made. The exceptions being the a-frames for the crank shaft which had been painted with a very cheap paint and were poorly prepped before painting. One problem that I had was that the crank shaft sleeves where not bored out to the proper diameter, I had to get a buddy to use a 4 mm reamer to fix them. However, the biggest problem is the crank shaft. It is a piece-it-together design and it is a very poor component compared with the rest of the kit, in my opinion it is the Achilles heel of the whole kit. It is almost impossible to put it together and have it aligned well enough so that the engine will run. This is supposed to be a bolt together kit and I felt that this component should come pre-made, so I contacted the Little Machine Shop about the problem with the hope that they would be able to sell me the crank shaft ready-to-go. I was very disappointed to receive an email from them that basically said they said that they DO NOT sell any sub components and that I was on my own. Be aware because of their return policy, the kit is not returnable once you put it together, so I am out of luck (what to do with an expensive "decoration"?). Be careful and don't break anything. Anyway, I would not recommend this to anyone until they fix the crank-shaft problem. This is supposed to be an "assembly kit", so it would be nice if something as critical as the crank shaft would come ready to bolt on the model and not a little bag of poorly made parts. In hind sight, I should have spent a little more and bought the fully assembled model.
Sad and disillusioned in Utah,
....Mike
