I bought this engine for my kids go kart. At first the engine ran great, I just added oil and gas and it fired up on the first pull. Within a week the engine began to have problems. First, the handle on the started broke off, next it began to backfire, then it stopped running completely. The company sent me a replacement engine. This engine would not idle, but continued to run fast. After using it one time for less than 50 yards, the engine cut off and would not restart. I shipped one of the engines back for a refund, but still have not received the refund.

Good engine for industrial or fixed rpm applications. Also good for a go cart if you know how to modify governor/throttle controls on engine. If you use this on a minibike, be careful as it is very powerful. The rpm's come fixed and the throttle must be disengaged before starting it with the clutch on. I had a wild bike riding around the front yard today doing wheelies before the chain came off and I could stop it. I had to very carefully modify the throttle to keep this baby under control. Do not put a small kid on this type of power-I weigh 180lbs and as soon as the motor started the centrifugal clutch engaged, the bike wheelied with me sitting on it,it got away from me, and it did wheelie doughnuts on my front lawn before the chain came off after a few minutes. This happened with the stock governor and throttle set at its MINIMUM SPEED. It is possible to lower the speed but you must know something about small engines to do it. The base rpm appears to be around 4500 rpm but if you disconnect the governor and spring the throttle all the way down you can cut it back to 1000 rpm so the clutch does not engage and have a smooth slow idle speed. Then you can attach a throttle with the cable opposing the spring and use it safely on the bike. NEVER start at full throttle as you will end up on your butt. Make sure the throttle is spring loaded to cut back to idle minimum when not opening the throttle or the bike will run away from your sore butt. Wear a helmet because this engine will propel a standard minibike with a Hilliard clutch at 60 mph. Be forewarned, 6.5 hp is a lot of power to load on a doodlebug or bronco type minibike. It will fit easily. Make sure the brakes are up to the task.
All that having been said, if you are looking for a fixed power source for a chipper-shredder, generator, pump, or any other continuous duty application all you have to do is design it (or replace the engine on the existing unit if you're not building from scratch), bolt this engine on with aircraft grade bolts, add oil, and then gasoline and start it up. My engine started on the first pull and has done so since. Incidentally it was 40 F outside and it started very easily. This is a good engine and for the price it can't be beat for the power and ease of starting. Be careful, it's a tiger the size of a housecat.
