set-up is torture September 11, 2008 james jackson 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have a shop full of tools ranging in quality from harbour freight to festool and I have never been so upset while trying to assemble a tool!!The video is so worthless they could just as well send a dvd on birdwatching. An absolute joke.the manual is no better.whats more I had to use a grinder,WD-40 and a hammer to insert the rod that holds the follower. Also one of the plastic knobs would not screw all the way down on the threaded post used to run the cutter back and forth. The brackets that connect the tool to the lathe are bare steel, how hard could it be for them to spray on a little primer? When I pay $640.00 I expect to get a lot better product than this.I believe that vega has the best product on the market, but it seems they need some competition to wake them up.oh and it seems to work fine if you make it through the assembly.
Great quality machine June 16, 2008 J. Griffin (Colorado) This is a very well made machine. Like others I was dismayed at the very poor and out of date instruction book and video. Basically I had to call Vega for help and leave a message for a call back. The video (which is too fast and vague) for set up is out of date and shows out of date mounts installed on this tool which are different than the ones you receive. The video is soon to be replaced with a professional one the Vega person assured me. Plan on calling Vega to get help (1-800-222-8342) until you can get the right video/instruction book. Other than that, it is a pleasure to use and looks like it would provide many years of service. It is worth a little frustration to get it setup and adjusted.
great duplicator; horrible directions January 13, 2008 Michele Finley (Gilman, IL United States) I am grateful for the other who reviewed this product before me because without their reviews, I would have been exceedingly surprised at how badly anyone could write directions. The team that created the video must have been making a high school production; I trust they did not pass the course. It was shot from the wrong side and did not show any close shots which would have been helpful. The written directions were so vague that my husband and I could only get parts put together after we waited a day or so between attempts to put the duplicator together.

I'm looking forward to the great results I've heard the Vega duplicator produces, but so far it's been a real challenge. The tool arrived damaged and without any useful setup instructions. The design is simple; it's like a big key replicator. The mechanism runs along a motorcycle chain and on my tool the chain was torn loose from both ends, most likely from being dropped in shipping, because the last link on each end was bent out sharply and the retaining screws twisted and broken. Since there is no readable parts list it is impossible to tell how the assembly should work and what kind of parts I should go and buy to try to get it assembled. Everyone says it's a very good machine, but the documentation is possibly the most amateurish of any tool I've ever bought. Putting it together involves a lot of guesswork since there are no photos, no three dimensional graphics, no cutaway views with parts labeled, no renderings of the assembly process. Nothing but hand drawn sketches and numbers that do not correspond to listed parts, and references to figures that do not exist, etc. Very frustrating. There is an instructional VHS tape; I had to borrow a VCR since I threw mine out many years ago. Vega does not have a DVD version, so I made a DVD from the tape and found it quite helpful, but a manual is a must. Here's hoping the tool works as well as everyone says it does.

This machine is supurb. Well engineered and rugged yet simple and proud of it. Directions are poor, but machine more than makes up for it.Maybe good engineers dont make good authors..JDW
