5 out of 5 stars Good Replacement Engine   September 26, 2009
Joehorse (Gautier, MS)
I have come to the conclusion that the way to avoid having to make this type of a purchase is to insist that the riding lawn mower has an engine WITH AN OIL FILTER !!!!! I had to replace a 15 HP Briggs on a 3 1/2 year old Snapper (I know....not a very long life for a lawn mower motor) and this one matched the old one enough to fit. Delivery was great and the price was right. I did have to tapp two mounting holes on the base to align with the mounting plate for the Snapper. The old engine used approximately 3/4 quart of oil each 3 1/2 hours of operation and Briggs said it was okay !???! Well.........enough said. I certainly hope this one is better. It does seem to run smoother.....so......time will tell. I AM USING THE MOBILE ONE OIL (Synthetic and expensive for a lawn mower) The new engine was easy to install, the basic wiring came with it, plus the muffler, so.......all in all.....it's a good deal. Like I said before....TIME WILL TELL.

This was a replacement engine for my riding mower. It was an exact number matching replacement. Because the old engine was at least 6 years older i knew some things would have changed, I made sure the shaft was the same size, diameter and length, as well as the hole size and thread. The wiring is where i had my problems. I asked some knowledgeable people for the correct wiring on the engine. With their help i was able to install the engine and get back to mowing my yard with a new engine to work with. The engine was at a good price.

I did have one problem, ups dropped my first engine order. At that time i had to order another engine. Amazon stepped up and paid for a 2 day delivery charge, $90. Thank you amazon.

I would recommend this engine to anyone who needs a new engine for their mower. Briggs and Stratton have excellent engines.

thank you
